Excited for the season. We all know we just lost the most impactful senior class in softball's history this past spring, and our offense had already been regressing since that 2022 run to the Stillwater regional. I don't see fall game stats, so I have no idea who is supposed to be our power threat this year. Maybe the transfer from Tulsa? Madison Conley also hit two dingers in limited opportunities her freshman year. We seem to stay loaded at the pitcher position, but I want to see who can hit.
As for the schedule, great slate. Eight power conference opponents (2 home, 2 away, 4 neutral). Baylor has invited us back to their tournament. It seems like we were always good for a Baylor victory in Waco for a few years there. And good to see at least one of UT Arlington's programs isn't afraid to schedule us... although they felt the intimidation factor @untcampbell, @FirefightnRick, @bstnsportsfan3, @AleAlejandro21, @Jared, and I brought to Arlington last season and decided to schedule us for 1 p.m. on a Thursday in their own tournament. Looks like we're just gonna have to use some PTO hours.
Some other travel opportunities of note, we've got a home-and-home with Tarleton. We've also got Tulsa and Wichita on the road.
You're crazy - SMU's total spend was not even that out of line by SWC standards. The other poster saying SMU was arrogant and hated was correct, and we didn't have the aircover of local media like they do in, say, Austin. Read The Pony Trap for a good view on the size and nature of all the other SWC violations and comparison of the severity of their punishment indexed against their size and media value.
So yes SMU was not totally innocent in provoking backlash but paying has been continuous from the 1930's on. Why do you think the big blue bloods hate NIL? They have the most money, they should love it shouldn't they? Their under the table pay infrastructure isn't a competitive advantage anymore especially with free transfers. Can't buy up all the talent and lock it down on their bench.
We are in the LEAST money corrupted era ever because it's out in the open above the table.
UNT has MORE opportunity to be competitive and get talent than it ever has before. They're out there waiting to give you their commitment. If you pick it up it's yours, if you don't I have no sympathy for you.
