Really surprised, maybe we just have a lot of new members on the board this season, but man what a freak out.

Osbourne can't get time because the coach promised a true freshman's dad he'd get to play.

Chico forgot how to call good plays.

Our defense is terrible.

It's the world effin series so no one will come to our game.

And it goes on and on.

If you even post real football obe=observations you are labeled as some kind of apologist who has no expectations and are what's wrong with our university. If you fall in any of these camps, please Just chill out!

This is what it looks like to me.

Our offensive line is young and not as good as last year, but they are improving.

Our WR corps is the weak link on the team and really hurting the entire offense. When a walkon leads you in yardage in game 7, one that wasn't even playing the first few games of the year, you've got problems.

QB play has been poor. Despite DT's obvious injury he isn't getting better quickly enough. But it's hard to put the blame on him since he's hurt. Maybe if he wasn't hurt he'd be getting better. I'd suspect the fact that McNulty is getting time is because the coaches don't think it's all the injury.

Offensive play calling has been conservative, but not overly. Mainly the team shows no ability to make big plays, so they are trying to avoid 3rd and long.

Defense has really improved compared to last year.

It's troubling though that with such an experienced secondary we still have so many blown coverages that lead to big plays.

The linebacking corps is better than last year even with younger players.

The defensive line is better than last year as well, even with younger players.

The defense is really scheming well, but we still get burned. Sometimes though the other team just makes a play. it happens, it's not always your fault. If the offense was improving as much as the defense we'd be feeling pretty good.

The concerns are that where we are weak, QB, WR, Secondary, we don't have much else to try there. That means recruiting and another year of learning. Perhaps the secondary will be ok since Warner was getting time, we have the transfer Trice, and Swarn and Lee along with Hilbert Jackson whose getting time. Still light there but not the abyss that is the WR position.

Overall, i'm disappointed, but not in the team's play or the coaching, but in the fact we have so few options and it's going to take so long to build it up. That's not to say I'm satisfied with the coaching, but there is no doubt for this fan, that this team is weaker than last year, but we already have two wins. It ain't much but it's something. I sure hope we have a monster recruiting class, because we need to really start showing options and improvement next year. Like 6 wins and starting to scare some people.

I'll be there regardless, of course. It's the Mean Effin Green so I always go.

Someday North Texas will go 13-0 in football, and the fan base will be calling for the heads of the coaching staff on a silver platter because the stadium doesn't hold 50,000 people, the bowl game wasn't a BCS bid, and a wheelchair bound 70-year-old man dared sit during the fourth quarter at one of the home games.

This. Seriously, UNT fans complain more than anyone I know.

No kidding. Getting rid of Fouts Field has freed up a lot of time to complain about other things. And our fan base stepped up big time.

Why shouldn't we complain when ASU and ULL are doing very good this year despite having 1st year coaches who are paid much less than DMac and staff. Stop the excuses and just win.

Although, I will admit...Arky State and Louisiana aren't as handcuffed as Mac has been in following in the footsteps of four years worth of high school coaching and recruiting.

Agree with you about the coaching but the recruiting was on par with both stAte and Louisana according to Rivals.

      A plea to our "football-only" fans

      Are you pleading for the student body to show up or alumni? A 6:30 game on a Wednesday is a B for someone that doesn’t live in close proximity. I live in Allen and could never consider that drive. We go to Americans hockey games as they are in our back yard. They aren’t very good but more of a deterrent for us to go to more, is no one is there….on a Tuesday night. If there stands were filled, it would feel more legit and we’d probably go more, even if the quality of play wasn’t there. I suspect the student body wants that same ‘experience’. When I was there so many years ago, we wanted to be where the action was, even if it was dash riprocks. So I see a bit of chicken and egg here. People don’t go because people don’t go. If people would go, more people would go. football games are so much easier to plan for. 1 game a week, generally on a Saturday. You can make a day/event out of it. Weekly, more frequent basketball games, on weeknights, don’t offer the same advantages. All that said, I applaud your plea and hope that the tides change. Would love to hear that the Pit is packed routinely.

      According to Burton, and I'm sure it's the same with some men's teams, some of the intra-TX teams that you'd think would bring more fans will only come play us if we give them a check. I think investing more in our schedule would be worth it for the larger crowds (plus extra tickets/concessions sold). Stop scheduling Mississippi Valley State. Get a UTA, Texas State, SHSU, LA Tech, UTEP, or SFA in here. Renewing rivalries with WKU and MTSU would also be fun. Agreed, I feel like there was more in the concourse a few seasons ago? But now it is mostly bare and dead. I would like to see somewhere on the concourse a spirit shop you walk through, like the Hangar at the AAC in Dallas. Perhaps it could be the on-campus NIL Store to provide an easy opportunity for our athletes to make more NIL earnings.

      It definitely starts with the students. There are too many alumni I've talked to my age or older who have still never been to a basketball game at The Pit. It is much easier to get them back if they've already experienced a game in the Mac/Hodge era. Otherwise it'll probably never happen. What is confusing though is how 7000+ people showed up last January to watch us beat SMU, the players invited the students to come party with them on the court, and students decided not to come back.
