I hate seeing SMU's name come up in these types of discussions, but I guess it just shows how irrelevant we have been for the past several years.

On the bright side, I like the direction the program is headed. We've done some really nice things this year and I hope that continues.

We just don't have friends in high places I guess.

When you have a UH Coog poster saying they played SMU last Fall at Ford before 500-1,000 fans then you see its just really more than about attendance. Hell, only schools like North Texas get crucified on that subject (even with our modest 20K per game average to date) when other Big Timers have been having really bad attendance problems for decades.

One has to believe these BE or MWC types are doing some semblance of checking up on some of these schools resume's, especially in the attendance department. If not, then the North Texas game attendance counters just needs to become pathological liars about what our attendance figures are, too. (not really)

GMG!

Yes and no. They'll out-recruit us by being in a AQ conference. So it'll be even harder to compete in recruiting terms. Even if we join a MWC or CUSA.

It will also depend how they're doing in the Big East. If they stink and we have a pretty good program that consistently wins and goes to bowl games...I don't think they'll be recruiting that much better than us.

Could be an issue, but then again would it be any larger then the current "Sun Belt" issue?

If Houston leaves I see cusa reloading with La. Tech. Surely we would be in the mix but once again i see SMU keeping us out. I hate to say it but SMU probably needs to leave if we want into Cusa.

Bingo! I sound like a broken record but our conference hopes are -in an ironic twist of fate- directly tied to SMU.

The great news for us is we have a pretty long 3-4 year home and home series with SMU that I believe starts in 2013. I expect us to be a much better program at that time with Coach Mac at the helm. And if they did bolt to Big East we could offer CUSA a non conference opportunity for revenge.

I'm just not sure that there is going to be much of a Big East to go to. It looks like Missouri is most likely going to the SEC. Word is BYU can't come to terms with the Big 12 which means *at least* Louisville will probably leave the Big East for the Big 12 and maybe even W. Virginia and Cincinnati.

One last thought more specific to the UH or SMU depending on Temple question... IF the Big East added just Houston it would suck for us. Our best option would be the Mountain West which would not be as good an option without Boise. However, if the Big East is looking more at SMU as the choice, it could be a HUGE boost for us because it could mean entry into a stronger CUSA with Houston and a great pipeline into Houston with both Houston and Rice. If both Houston and SMU go Big East we would have to be very strongly considered by both CUSA and the Mountain West.

If Boise leaves the Mountain West, it really diminishes that conference and you have to wonder if it would be appealing to either Houston or SMU as compared to CUSA.

It does appear that the Big East has wised up and realizes that they have to have solidarity to move forward. I am ready for this to finally play out so we can move on!

I think our best opportunity to get in C-USA is with SMU out, BUT I also believe that SMU is rubbing the conference the wrong way by trying so publicly to tell everyone “We want out”. If C-USA has concerns that SMU will move they might make a move for us in spite of any rumblings from SMU – that is unless SMU makes a commitment to stay. For C-USA, they also have to consider (and maybe this is not realistic) what happens if they make no move towards UNT, and we end up in the MWC (stick with me here...) and then SMU moves to the Big East - C-USA is left with no presence in the Metroplex.

"Houston, SMU and Temple are being considered for the final two spots. However, one source said Houston and SMU are expected to get the final two spots because of Villanova’s concerns about adding Temple into the league.

Boise State, Air Force and Navy would join as football-only members. UCF, Houston and SMU would join as full members."

If that happens it would leave 3 openings in CUSA and 2 in the MWC....all good for us unless that justs promotes a merger of those two conferences.

Nope, I'm excited about these moves and our chances for a moveup.

This is one of the "Big Three" things that needed to happen to elevate UNT's football program:

1.) football facility

2.) head coach

3.) football conference

This is that opportunity and we need it to happen. MWC or CUSA? :thumbsu:
