Hurricane Need More Cupcakes on the Schedule

At least Blankenship will finally catch a bit of a scheduling break. The Hurricane will host that tough trio of SMU, Marshall and Houston as TU attempts to win the school's first C-USA title since 2005.

TU's performance against a North Texas team that had defeated a Big Ten foe (Indiana) last week was much more dominating than the final score suggests. The Mean Green scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter when Blankenship pulled his starters with TU up, 41-3.

The convincing win was also proof positive that Blankenship has the potential to continue the recent success the Hurricane enjoyed under Graham and Steve Kragthorpe.

Agree, but they didn't flood the field with second teamers either. On the Tulsa feed, they had a sideline reporter who make a big deal of the second team offensive line going to in. They went in for one short series and never again. I don't think they played anymore second teamers than NT did. Of course, Osborne was an improvement for NT.

A couple of points: First, as you may know, most newspaper headlines (including those in the Tulsa World) are not written by the same individual who wrote the accompanying story. In this case, the author only used the word "cupcake" one time, and that was in referring to the type of non-conference games that K-State used to schedule under their current coach during his first tenure at KSU (not sure if he is still doing this). The author did not refer to UNT as a cupcake, and I don't think he meant to imply that the Mean Green is such a team. It should also be noted that a softening of the non-con schedule was strictly an idea of the writer's and not necessarily the stated desire of the university or the TU fans.

Second, the writer also mentioned SMU, Houston, and Marshall as being tough match-ups, with the only scheduling "break" coming in the fact that all three will be home games this year for TU.

I think the original headline of the story was unfortunate. It was not representative of the story itself and was also (obviously) subject to misinterpretation.
