BVito article on UNT's young defense

I love the future of our defense with guys mentioned in this article. Brett lists "Sarge" as a sophomore....everything I can find has him as a junior. I hope that we somehow got an extra year of eligibility for him. He was in the Army, and didn't play any college ball anywhere else....so maybe he's just a soph.? Anyway, good article:

McCoy served through 2009. Played all 11 games 2010 (1st year), and is playing now.

Doesn't that mean he is a soph? That's what Brett says, but his bio on MGS.com says junior.

Brett PM'd me and told me that the official site roster is wrong....and that "Sarge" is a sophomore. Great!

Love the youngsters on this team. We're going to have to have someone to step up in replacing Lance. Don't forget about the transfers we have coming in next year. Trice and Feldt. If we could have find a few playmakers on offense and have a DT or 2 step up we'll be in decent shape.

I believe that player is already on the roster, be-it a 2 headed monster: Jamaine Wilhite & Zac Whitfield. We'll also have Byrd to be a "thunder" type of back as well.

I believe that player is already on the roster, be-it a 2 headed monster: Jamaine Wilhite & Zac Whitfield. We'll also have Byrd to be a "thunder" type of back as well.

Not familiar with Wilhite....I see him on the roster as being from Guyer. I guess he's a walk-on?

Anyway, the two freshmen being redshirted....the aformentioned Zac Whitfield and Antoine Jimmerson.....plus Brandin Byrd...give us some good candidates to re-load with.

Also, the walk-on Jeremy Brown was really impressive last spring. And he's a freshman--not sure if he might end up being red-shirted too.

Yep. Go take a look at his rivals page from 2010. 76th rated RB in his class nationally.

I really think what we are seeing now is an insertion of better coaching more than talent. Note, not knocking the talent; just think the overall talent is about the same level NT has had over the last 6 years. Having said that having Boutwell, McCoy, Stojkovac, Orr, Lincon, Wright and Warner for at least two years is exciting.

Jeremy Brown has been playing on special teams. He's #40, watch him on kickoffs, he has some wheels!
