What did the high school defensive coordinator do in 2007 with our nine returning defensive starters?

Just think...Iowa State mistakenly cut McCarney loose after the 2006 season. What if we'd hired him that December instead of Dodge?

If he and his coaching staff are doing what they're doing with this youthful team, imagine what they could have done with those experience Mean Green defensive players in 2007!

And...just think about what this defense will look like in a couple of years! If...we can keep all of these coaches. I'd begged for Bowen as a head coaching candidate over the past couple of seasons. If we pull out a winning season this year and next, he'll be an even hotter commodity.

These guys can coach. These OL coach, the defensive coaches. The special teams coach. And, at this point, we're just seeing the rough draft!

I am just happy to have the staff, NT has now. The sky is the limit for NT, there is no reason that this program cannot take off. It is not going to be easy, but it is great to see NT football finally pointed in the right direction. Big factor in the Belt this year, championships soon, and off to better things within 5 years. A dream maybe, but a lot more likely than it has been since Fry's exit.

We literally didn't have funds available to hire Dan McCarney as a head coach back then. What did Dodge get, less than $250K as a head coach? It has been said that we couldn't even meet Jim Harbaugh's salary desires, and he was looking to leave D-II San Diego, not San Diego State. Buying out Dickey's contract, which was also low by most standards just killed us.

I think we can all agree that the student fee for the new stadium and having a somehwat pro-athletics BOR now has seemingly moved us out of the outhouse!!

I was merely following up your "what if" scenario, suggesting that USF might have never risen like they did and it would have been us.

Was this the staff that got USF to top-5?

IMHO, it is amazing to think we have the assistants we do. We all remember what Chico did last year when handed the reigns, and Bowen looks like a solid solid coach in his own right.

And they're our own coordinators!

I truly believe that I could possibly trot out there and pick up maybe 5 yards/carry or so if I just ran behind whichever side of the line Cam is on. The dude is going to be a road grader.

From what im hearing, Cam hasnt been sub par in practice. Maybe bc he knows he isnt playing this year, but time will tell.
