If you haven't heard, one of the greatest hockey players of all time, Mike Modano, is retiring today. It's tough when you see an icon from your childhood retire. It is even tougher when it is someone who is not only a classy individual, but sold an entire region on the sport of hockey.

Thank you for the memories, Mike.

One of the greats...any perhaps the greatest of the US born hockey players of all time...is retiring, and every fan in the area owes him a big "thank you". Mike Modano did a great deal to introduce hockey to the DFW area, and to help DFW learn how to support an NHL team. And, he did it with class. Great player...better human being. Thanks, Mike, thanks for all you have done and will continue to do. I only hope that young players all over the world will look to the way you handled yourself throughout your career and say "I want to be the next Mike Modano".

Great job! Thank you!

Was looking at some video on ESPN.com on Modano and Pierre Lebrun was commenting that Mike Modano is ARGUABLY the 2nd best American hockey player ever?? Ar you effin kidding me? In his opinion Chris Chelios is the greatest ever but you could make a case for Jeremy Roenick or Phil Housley. I was really surprised he didn't think Modano was the best ever. I guess he hasn't been that impressed with Modano's career since he may even put those other guys ahead of Mo.

It will be tough for some to give Mo the respect he deserves. I His style of play was hampered for a while by the different coaching styles. Although he undoubtedly lost some of his numbers, the fact that he was able to evolve his game and style to fit his coaches game plans, and STILL be so successful says a TON about Mikey.

Wait... what did Mikey Mo do?

Ah, will this be the public unveiling of a long-held grudge? I've been waiting for Tasty since the thread was created.

Anyone who wants to hear why Modano is the worst current/former athlete I've ever had to deal with (a list that includes notoriously difficult or outright hostile people like John Wetteland, Brent Severyn, Tony Siragusa, Spencer Tillman, and Roy "Cockwatcher" Williams, among others) is welcome to come by and ask me in person. I'm not hard to find... We're flying our flag in the parking lot of every home football game and I'm at 75% of our basketball games, home and away.
