Sorry, but this sucks if we don't get a game in Denton

No need to be sorry. This absolutely sucks without a return game. I don't know why we keep doing this (assuming no return game).

Not excited at all. Not like it's an easy trip either.

Especially since they are playing North Dakota State on the road... so they will play a FCS school on the road, but not NT? I guess this is about money. We still need revenue and replacing a road game with a road game with Iowa increases the chances for a win. At least a little bit.... if they give us a return game, we likely lose the guarantees for the other 2 games. I am going to guess that this is about the Benjamin's.

Iowa will open the 2015 season at home against Illinois State, then play at Iowa State, at home against Pittsburgh and host North Texas. In 2016, Iowa opens at Kinnick Stadium against North Dakota State, then hosts both Iowa State and Central Michigan. In 2017, Iowa plays at Iowa State and hosts North Texas again.

Iowa still is looking for an opponent in 2016 (likely on the road) and 2017 (a home game).

I'd rather play Iowa than LSU or Alabama 100% of the time. Iowa is always good, but they are no world beater, and we still get paid. I guess I'm in the minority, but I like this.

I agree with you that I would much rather play Iowa than LSU, but we were supposed to get teams like Iowa at our new stadium, not continue the UNT tradition of playing big time schools multiple times without a return game.

Our stadium is nice enough to get Indiana here, but the bigger programs still make way more money at home games than to accept a 2 for 1 deal with one of the worst teams in FBS. I will agree 100%, though, on scheduling Iowa over Florida. Replace SEC teams with Big Ten teams. If we ever start winninig again, a team like Iowa could look at a 2 for 1 deal because the wins over a decent UNT team will help their program. Coming to Denton is just too much of a risk, $$$-wise and SOS-wise, right now, for a team like Iowa. Plus, the fact that our beautiful stadium is still a 30k stadium hurts our ability to bring a team like Iowa here.

Why does everyone assume that NT wanted a 2 to 1 or even home and away? I assume this is the guarantee game of those years, and many have expressed their dislike of playing at LSU, UT, OU or the like. From a financial perspective there is no comparing the close to $1m for a guarantee game versus the income of one home game. Add to that on a 1 to 1 deal you would have to return the game at basically your cost.

I think RV has done a great job in basically reducing the guarantee games to one a year. If Iowa is it for a couple of years it is a good thing. Add the McCarney factor and his history of playing well against Iowa and becomes even more appealing.

Yeah, but we still got to pay for non-revenue sports, somehow. I hate it, too, but its part of being a SBC/CUSA/MAC/WAC member to play these games.

We all understand that, but there is NO EXCUSE to play them twice without a return game. I can understand going up there for one game to get a paycheck, but twice in three years!?!?

Still can't get schools to come to Denton. Man, no respect.

Stadium size perhaps...Iowa usually has a packed house, but I, too, would like to see at least one home game in there for UNT. With Coach Mac you had to guess we would be seeing Iowa and/or Iowa State. Might have a shot at a home game with Iowa State. Wonder if they would be interested or have been contacted? Would make for an "interesting" match up on several levels.

RV stated in the past that if we could average 25,000 for home games then he could do away with a paycheck game. He's also stated that he wanted to sign contracts that had a return game and he would be hesitant to sign contracts without one. If they can play out South Dakota State, or whoever that is this year, then they can load up and come to Denton.

Other FBS teams play schools like Stephen F or Sam Houston.

We could play South Carolina STATE and hope that people misunderstand who we're playing. Or see if McNeese State would ask Riley and Darius for directions to Denton. But if we can't get a home-and-home, with a stadium like Apogee, let's just have a 6th or 7th home game and raise the per ticket price a couple of bucks. And if we have to play a money game per year, it's $1 million.

I betcha Texas would have paid 1 mil for a 6th win last season.

But for now, Beat Indiana.

I wonder if due to geographic proximity, South Dakota State can offer up a ton of dough. Maybe they can fill half the stadium with Hawkeye fans and can guarantee more money than we ever could?
