Long Jim,

But they [Texas] could have easily avoided this mess by just saying from the start that no recruits will ever have their HS games on the LHN. It was the one thing that A&M used to finally get away from Texas' shadow into the SEC, a conference they have wanted to be in for 20 years.

They did. When this all started, and Aggy got their panties in a wad over Texas' new toy, DeLoss Dodds publically stated that if it was a cause of the conference breaking up, then no high school games would ever be on the LHN.

No facts in this discussion, Poindexter!

Its not like the LHN gets first or even second choice. If the conference doesn't like it, they just put all Texas games on the tube, it would be a challenge and they would ask for more money, but that money would be shared and there would be nothing left but UTSA games for the LHN. NT has had TV agreements that got all games on TV before. It was a local contract and the station could not override the Big West contract if ESPN wanted to have first rights at a game. But the LHN is no different other than the pay. Whereas UNT got a negligible kickback from advertisements, UT will get a guarantee. The LHN doesn't have a guarantee of anything. They still have to get people to watch and advertisers to pay and cable outlets to pick it up. Honestly, this is much adeui about nothing. It will probably go belly up as the business plan does not seek sustainable.

Texas has not disagreed to share their first tier content or even the second tier. The LHN would only show games that had not been picked up by the conference's TV contract. So the conference contract gets first picks. The regional carrier gets to pick second. Anything left over, the LHN can air. All schools have this same right and this is really an experiment. If it works, there will be plenty of copycats that choose this method of third tier, picked through content delivery over the current method of online streaming. Do you guys think that Belt schools should get a kick back from Mean Green Premium revenue?

All for one, and one for all, comrade!

Miner,

Here's a link for you, and it's to a listing of Tier 3 revenue. The first column in particular was mind-blowing to me, because it's never talked about when people get on their soapbox and yammer on about "fairness" and "equity".

Tier 3 School Revenue

I've posted some of this before (on a thread that was largely ignored) but here's what the "equal" SEC figures are. BTW--Do he Ags know what they're getting themselves into? Think Bama will share with them?

SEC

University of Alabama $8,444,674.00

University of Kentucky $7,743,327.00

University of Florida $7,450,000.00

Louisiana State University $7,012,730.00

University of Tennessee $6,293,621.00

University of Georgia $6,231,392.00

Auburn University $4,637,605.00

University of South Carolina $1,829,000.00

University of Mississippi $1,658,650.00

University of Arkansas $950,000.00

Mississippi State University $0.00

Vanderbilt University N/A

Here's that bastion of fairness--the Big 10:

Big Ten

University of Wisconsin $5,547,740.00

Penn State University $2,362,500.00

Ohio State University $2,329,462.00

University of Iowa $1,500,000.00

University of Illinois $1,175,065.00

Michigan State University $660,025.00

University of Minnesota $324,000.00

Indiana University $0.00

University of Michigan $0.00

Purdue University $0.00

Northwestern Univ. N/A

Here's that wickedly unequal Big 12. Unequal for sure!

Big 12

University of Kansas $7,276,988.00

Oklahoma State University $6,395,000.00

University of Nebraska $4,393,529.00

University of Missouri $4,081,549.00

Kansas State University $3,263,941.00

Iowa State University $2,608,896.00

University of Texas $338,171.00

University of Oklahoma $317,361.00

University of Colorado $155,528.00

Texas Tech University $0.00

Texas A&M University $0.00

Baylor N/A

Keep in mind, that those figures are SEPARATE from Tier 1 and 2 payouts. If you add those separate figures together, you get a better idea of what teams really make on TV/media rights. What (in this case) Texas has done, is moved their tier 3 money from $330K to $15M. Again--every team on that list is doing the same thing--and has for years.

Still think the SEC and Big 10 share revenue "equally"?
