All I can say is that if the 4 16 team conferences do happen, the fallout to those schools will be interesting. I think the unseen consequence will be that the price for a non-AQ fluff game is going to go up, or at least it should. Because the amount of money that they stand to make will increase, the rest of us should be charging exorbitant prices for exclusion. That could be the new model for money distribution. I know that in this new landscape, I would be upset if we played one of these schools for just $1M. Because they will have a rough conference road, they will be looking for an easy OOC schedule, giving us more negotiating power.

The local press here (Raleigh-Durham) is reporting that the ACC will be adding Rutgers and UConn next. I really doubt that anyone bolts from the ACC. The presidents just unanimously voted to increase the exit fee to 20M.

My two cents is that this will ultimately affect North Texas sooner than later.

---If that is true... Louisville, Cincinatti (both former CUSA) So. Florida, and W. Virginia are left to find a home. I don't see that group very attractive to schools in the SW. That conf (football wise) is in worse shape than the Big XII schools if it comes apart.... The Big East will continue as a basketball league ... maybe no pressure to add new football members. Both conf football members will have to be looking at CUSA to join or raid... maybe some Sunbelt ones. Despite our win/loss record lately, we appear to be the best option of the Belt to aquire. Reocrd and reputation counts but so does market, money, and fan base.

We really need to win the next 2 games. This isn't about basketball or geography, it's about money and the haves flexing their muscle. No big 6 conference is going to take in any non-big 6 member right now. That would be a huge signal of weakness to the other confernce mates, who would then panic and look at other options. Think of it this way: It's about 9pm and the big 6s have only had 2 beers. Right now, they are looking to ravage the prettiest girls in the bar (other members of weaker big 6 conferences). We are still a long way from the 2am booty call to CUSA.

Conference geography when all this is over is going to look like gerrymandered political districts.

So where does this leave the Sun Belt ant NT?

Being lucky enough to play the big boys as a warm up game for their conference games as this AD states... I hate the idea of 10 conference games and 2 OOC games. Call me old school but 8 and 4 works good if you ask me and lets you see how you stack up to the the rest of the country. I may also be a bit out there on this but I like the Sun Belt and hope it can grow and expand. You look at what FIU is doing right now in football and our strong basketball programs, we aren't that bad.
