Games like this week...

We should never play the Alabama and LSU's of the world. If you really need one money game a year, then teams like Clemson, Ole Miss, Colorado, Kansas, etc. would be good. Playing a top 5 team in the nation does us absolutely no good.

Agree 100% although when we get better as a program we will want to play those teams and they won't play us. They can be opportunity games when you have built your program up to a certain level.

For the players, these types of games are a rare opportunity. How often do they get to play in front of 100,000 people. Yes, they are cheering for the other team, but what an experience that must be like.

The big risk is injury. Other than that, it's a good thing to have a money game every year. More money for the program, a chance to shock the world, usually a TV game, and an experience for the players that they have never had in high school or other college games.

again, no injuries is the key.

The reason I hate games like this week is that, in building their program into a winner, Kansas State didn't schedule a bunch of money games. They went with I-AAs and common strength I-As at home. It worked.

I just don't see - and probably never will - the benefit to the mindset of a team like ours scheduling a sure loss.

Winning helps the confidence of a team, no matter who the opponent is. We were sky high after beating Ball State a couple of seasons ago. Ball State!

We need more winnable games. Houston and Indiana are fine. Alabama, Texas, LSU, Arkansas, OU, etc. - not so much.

I agree with you. I can tell you this, if I had a picture of me playing on the field against Alabama in front of 100,000 people it would be hanging in my office for everyone to see. We sometimes minimize what an absolute honor and privilege it is to play D-I college football. Not everyone gets the chance to do this.

Trust me, that feeling quickly goes away when you look up at the scoreboard and it says 30-7 at halftime. I think players would much rather play lower level teams that they actually have a chance to beat. No one likes to get the crap kicked out of them. No matter how cool the stadium might be.

While in theory I agree with your comment, sometimes the scheduling has to be so far out that you don't know who will be top 5 and who will not be once the game arrives. While one can guess that Alabama will be there year in and year out, LSU might not. I think we all recall when LSU wasn't nearly the powerhouse it is right now and Texas has certainly dropped in the standings the last couple of years. You really never know. We could schedule Clemson and then they jump up to a top 5 slot once we get to the game. It's a roll of the dice, but like lots of folks here, I would prefer to see one and only one of these games a year until the program rights the ship and UNT is better armed to take such teams on.
