The stage was set for a huge night in North Texas history.

And in a lot of ways, all that surrounded the Mean Green’s home opener lived up to its billing.

UNT opened Apogee Stadium, its new $79 million football palace, and had a crowd of 28,075 fans – the third-largest on campus crowd in program history — in those brand new stands.

UNT just couldn’t add what would have been the perfect cap — a win over Houston on Saturday night.

The Mean Green hung in early against the heavily-favored Cougars before Case Keenum and Houston’s high-powered passing attack overwhelmed them 48-23 in the home debut of head coach Dan McCarney.

“The atmosphere was unbelievable,” McCarney said. “I got a little emotional at the beginning of the game because I know how everyone around here has worked at trying to build excitement for this game. I can’t say enough about the effort that this administration has done in getting people to buy into this program.”

Vito Really?

What a crap title "Football: Debut downer"

Why did you expect North Texas to Win against Houston this year? Were you let down in any way? No I think not!

The Team got what I wanted the first score, and Touchdown in Apogee Stadium. They stayed in the game into the third. Further then most people thought.
