DENTON — For two quarters, the Houston Cougars were a little bit off.

Whether it was an overthrown or dropped pass, a missed block or a defensive letdown, the Cougars couldn't establish the dominance they hoped for in the first 30 minutes on Saturday against North Texas.

There were almost no such troubles after halftime.

With an explosive third quarter and strong second half overall, the Cougars rolled to a 48-23 win over the Mean Green on Saturday before 28,075 at the newly-minted Apogee Stadium. It was the third-largest on-campus crowd in North Texas history.

"As unhappy as we were with our play in the first half, I thought our guys responded in a great way in the second half," UH coach Kevin Sumlin said.
