GAME NOTES: Houston will make the short trip to Denton this weekend to take on North Texas in a non-conference clash of in-state rivals.

Houston exacted revenge a week ago against UCLA, winning the opener 38-34 at home a year after suffering a loss to the Bruins in Pasadena. The win was especially sweet for senior quarterback Case Keenum, who tore his ACL in last season's loss to UCLA and was granted a sixth year by the NCAA this past January. The UCLA win was a tough non-conference matchup for Keenum and company, who will be heavy favorites in Denton.

The Dan McCarney rebuilding project at North Texas got underway a week ago at FIU in the Sun Belt opener for both teams. It was evident that there is plenty of work to do for McCarney in order to get the Mean Green back to postseason form (North Texas last bowl berth came in 2004). FIU raced out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 41-16 walloping of the Mean Green in the opener.

North Texas leads the series 7-5 over Houston, with Saturday's game being the first-ever matchup between the two teams at the brand new Mean Green Stadium in Denton.
