Why list TCU as "in limbo?" They are going to a BCS conference that may be ready to pounce on Kansas and Kansas State.

They may have used the wrong wording. All the teams in Limbo belong to non AQ conferences as of today and are teams that are regional. Look at that, they even included North Texas.

maybe because they think they would bolt the Big East for the Big 12 if the opportunity presented itself

I made 4 super conferences: ACC, Big "10", SEC, and PAC "12". The rest were SOL :-(

I think that's ultimately how it ends up (plus Notre Dame), will split off of NCAA and keep the $$ for themselves. They'll probably do a playoff system too. Maybe the rest of us UNTs and Baylors and MTSUs will do bowls and the like, but it looks like greed will ultimately corrupt.
