Let's see now:

1. Cleveland Cavaliers suck BAD; become a lottery team.

2. LeBron James, high school phenom, is caught working out with the pros.

3. Said high school phenom decides to go for NBA draft instead of college, thereby improving intellectual pool of both.

4. Phenom lives in Akron, OH, a relatively close location to Cleveland.

5. NBA has drawing for first pick in draft.

6. First ball drawn belongs to Cavaliers.

Coincidence? Only David Stern knows for sure.

Actually, CMJ, Denver had an equal chance in this drawing. Look at how many times the Mavericks were in the lottery (3, 4?) and never got higher than about the fifth pick. I think I read that the team with the worst record hasn't gotten the first pick since 1990. Statistically, each year there would (or should) have been an equal chance to get the first pick (that is, equal based on the weighting not truly "equal"). I guess we can say that this year's worst team was "due".

I think pulling out the conspiracy theory for this one is reaching.

If the Knicks would have gotten in the top three, I would have started a boycott of NBA merchandise. <_<

I do feel sorry for Jerry West. He had to watch the #2 pick go away because the Grizzlies lost it in an Otis Thorpe deal. Did he have a mess to clean up or what?
