After reading about the "Snake Pit" in this Sports Illustrated article back in 1970 about the Snake Pit the season the Super Pit opened (Link) and another from The North Texan (Link) where they call it the "Men's Gymnasium."

I'm trying to find out if the old "Snake Pit" is still around or if its been demolished. I know it was on Highland Street, but I don't know if it's been demolished or renovated and is now called something else.

Any information would help. Thanks!

It's still there, we played a game against Cameron to start the 2009/10 (IIRC) season due to a robot convention going on @ the Super Pit. It is named Ken Bahnsen gym these days.

It is still there. I believe it was renamed for Ken Bahnsen a few years ago. At one time it was the home for North Texas basketball. There was only men's basketball in those days. I have lots of good memories from games in that place. We didn't win many games in the 1960-65 period but we saw some very good teams come through there.

Well deserving I might add. Coach Bahnsen has been a football season ticket holder for years, and I would always stop by and catch up with him. I'll have to figure out where he is in the new stadium. Regarding the Snake Pit, as Cooley mentioned, it is across the street from the Super Pit and now attached to the PEB. Watched many a game there as a youngster and the opening scenes of "Necessary Roughness" were filmed there.
