Sports just has never been his thing. Typical of sports conversations with my brother.

During NBA Finals:

DRJ: Why are all these people posting about the Mavericks on Facebook?

CMJ: They're in the NBA Finals this year.

DRJ: Have they ever made the playoffs before? Aren't they terrible?

CMJ: They're been good for about 10 years now. Even made the Finals a few years back.

DRJ: Really? (Totally non interested voice) Who knew?

Sooooooo........what your saying is that your brother lives here...and.....

On a side note....isn't there a way I can fix the sub-title for this thread?

He'd probably think you were the strange one if you couldn't name all the music he was into. :) Just different strokes for different folks and all that.

I wish I could too. My second job is as an editor/writer so it drives me nuts more than anyone.

Seems like someone's argument in this thread still has decent sized headgear but a dwindling number of livestock.

Hmmmm.NO! The guy is a jerk...whether the 60 min. episode was before or after the James episode, it matters not in the primary argument. That big hat of yours is falling down over your eyes, so I don't imagine you would "get" the basic tenor of the argument.

Go ahead and ignore the 60 min. part, it doesn't change a thing and certainly doesn't change my opinion of the guy or his coaching abilities. I believe I stated that it was my opinion. I guess you missed that as well...that big hat is certainly a challenge. Really, the guy isn't even worth this much discussion. Wake me up when he gets another head coaching job and actually wins something. Until that time, I think I'll just ignore Leach threads. Not worth the time or effort.

I would have taken a jerk who graduates kids, apparently runs a clean program (one never really knows) and can transform an also ran into a national title contender any day of the week.

I don't care if he is arrogant. Find me a winning college football coach that isn't.

Well, you almost had me until you said "transform an also ran into a national title contender". Seems to me one's team would have to at least win a conference championship before being considered a national title contender. Again, wake me up when Leach wins something. You will recall that Coach Dodge graduated students and ran a clean program...he certainly was not a jerk. So, in your analogy, do we keep Coach Dodge? Ok, he didn't have a winning record at UNT, I get that. Lots of winning coaches are not jerks...they may have big egos, but they certainly are not jerks.

I think this thread has gone on in a wrong direction. We're not talking about bringing Leach here to Denton. We're talking about bringing him to the Belt. Look at the Big XII: were any of the other institutions really concerned about his persona? Their only concern was what happened when they played TTech. His teams wore them out, sometimes showed defense, and sometimes humiliated them on (additonal) national TV.

Bringing him to the Belt would only do the same: elevate our level of play and exposure of the game to a bigger audience. Let the specific institution and their local media take his ego while we simply watch. If you want to complain that it would tarnish the Belt's reputation, then you are not being consistent. Why? Because we can only look within our current crop of coaches to find blemishes. Do that, and tell me again why you have a problem with one coach being a jerk and yet his institution is run clean and firing on all cylinders.

Well, you almost had me until you said "transform an also ran into a national title contender". Seems to me one's team would have to at least win a conference championship before being considered a national title contender. Again, wake me up when Leach wins something.

2008: He beat #1 Texas and tied for the Big XII South title, but didn't get a shot at the conference title game because of conference tie-breaking rules. Thus, excluded from consideration for BCS title game. IIRC, until OU beat them they were up there with PSU in the top 3 of the BCS poll.

If you want to live and die by the all-or-nothing argument, then your point is lost. We aren't talking about the same thing anymore. It's like the rest of us are talking about how great the steak would be at Bob's Steak & Chophouse, while you keep insisting we're idiots because you think the carrot is gross.

The guy spent the last couple years at TTech taking Ws from OU or Texas while they were top-5 material. A couple more years and who knows?

He may have a big ego, but I didn't think he was a jerk. At what point, Kram did he become a jerk to you?

Well, that was one great game. I'll give you that. Fun to see Tech beat Texas, but remind me who won the Big XII that year? Don't think it was Tech.

Seriously why can't you at least admit that Leach is one hell of a coach and great recruiter. He made 18 year olds want to attend Texas Tech in that sh*t hole called Lubbock. Half of my friends went to TT and even they say that Lubbock doesn't have much of anything to offer but that Leach made that place cool not only within the state but the whole region and nationally. If you don't think Leach had nothing to do with the money, pride and tradition that has skyrocketed over there the past decade or so then you are being really ignorant. You being complete UNT blowhard is great and all but let's not deviate from reality.

Being ranked #2 with 2 games to go in the regular season IS in national title contention, conference title or not.

Mike...how'd it end up? After those last two games where was Tech ranked? Really, I can't recall.

Look, agree, Leach had some decent years at Tech...won some games and that is not in dispute. It's in the record books. Lots of coaches have had good runs and then little to nothing. Once Leach finally gets another job as a D1 head coach and if he again has some winning seasons strung together and if he can make it something other than all about him and his ego, I'll buy what you guys are selling.

Why in the sam hill does anyone care about Mike Leach? Seems there are several man crushes going on here for some reason. The guy is out of coaching, and it doesn't seem that any D1 schools are beating down his door to hire him...well any schools at any level much less D1.

You guys can carry on without me. I am really tired of talking about the guy. I'd take Canales before Leach, but we have Coach Mac and Chico. I am plenty good with that.

I would say that any coach finishing in the top 25 consistently is a great coach. The Big 12 was a monster conference during his time there so he did a great job. I only wish NT could have a coach that was that 'bad '

If he really does end up at FAU to replace Capt Kangaroo ...the Belt will have a great coach in the league (not to take away anything from the current Belt coaches)
