Despite that news, another step was taken toward the Aggies ultimately moving away from the Big 12 Conference.

That step occurred later Monday afternoon when A&M regents unanimously voted to give president Bowen Loftin the power to deal with conference alignment.

Step one - gauging SEC interest, done

Step two - giving president power to deal, done

Step three - have attorneys figure out ramifications of leaving Big 12 and television contracts, to be done

Step four - go to Texas legislature's Dog & Pony Show featuring OKCity U and SMU grad Dan Branch, to be done

Step five - accept invite from SEC, to be done

Step six - leave the conference in 2013...giving UNT full run of the place (if the Big 12 is even still around in 2013), to be done
