High School: Timberview (Mansfield)

AAU: Dallas Showtyme

Rivals listing: 74th prospect in the state per Texas Hoops in their early ranking of 2012 recruits

ESPN listing: Not yet fully evaluated

Rivals lists interest in/from 7 schools, most BCS. No confirmed offers (June 2011)

16th ranked prospect from DFW in the class of 2012 by Metroplex Hoops.

January 3rd 2011 article: “I think I’m a heady scoring guard that can play either the one or the two. I like an up tempo game which allows me to create and make plays, especially popping that open jumper.”

He's a FREQUENT user of Twitter. Remember: DO NOT COMMUNICATE with potential recruits! But, anyone who follows may be able to update on his comments pro/con on potential destinations. A quick scan suggests that Pye probably has much better spelling skills and critical judgment than Jarion Henry.

Noticed his twitter page is gone. At least when you click on the link provided in the original post in this thread.

Maybe this kid has the decision-making ability to be a point guard. :P

Maybe thought is with some many potential weapons coming on this year, we don't necessarily need someone who is a star, but someone who will come in and fill a specific role. If he is a two guard, that would be a need position as Walton would only have one more year. Would prefer to see 6'4 and 6'5 two guards though, but if he can fill it up, should be allright in SBC.

I think he must have a lot of potential to merit a ship commit this early, but NT will have plenty of wings in 2012., A, Williams, Walton, Franklin, and J. Williams. NT will lose two posts: Edwards and Hogans. The only thing that makes sense to me is just the opposite of your view, that they expect Pye to be a star. I don't believe you give role players early commits.

I was of the mindset that with our 2011 players/potential, we could be a little bit more picky about who we get after early.

Am I wrong? I would like to think the staff sees something special in this kid, worth the early efforts.

Metroplex Hoops is reporting it:

Mansfield Timberview's Brandon Pye gave Coach Jones and the UNT staff his verbal pledge to join the Mean Green next season. Pye is without question one of the best shooters in the area that is rarely given any love. Pye played this past summer with the Dallas Showtyme Elite squad.

At least one member of the forum had it on very good authority that JJ and North Texas were in pursuit for at least a year. This is a player that we were in on early. Seems to have paid off.

The word is that he's very solid academically. Good student, good kid, great athlete.

Full DRC article by Vito.

Reading how Showtyme's coach describes him, he seems like a mix of Collin Dennis guarding opposing 1s or 2s, and Adam McCoy as a dangerous shooter.

It should surprise no one that's followed our recruiting in the last 2-3 years that Shawn Forrest was specifically mentioned by Pye.

One quote that really stood out to me was from Pye's AAU coach:

“[uNT head coach Johnny Jones] isn’t afraid to play two small guards at once,” Davis said. “He did that with Josh and Dominique.”

So a coach of an elite AAU program knows enough about our program to make that statement and knows who those two players are...excellent!

His brother was Chris Davis who was a star here in the early 2000's. Also Ervin himself was affiliated with the program in some way for awhile.

Many AAU coaches are extremely familiar with UNT basketball, not just because one happens to be the brother of a former player.

JJ's and his staff's hard work is the reason for this.
