Ked told me last night that he dunked over Tony Mitchell. Kinda supprising that Ked is dunking now again, i think hes getting a little jealous of Tony dunking skills

He should get it in while he can, don't think he will play much this year! At least not as much as he may be thinking!

HSO means hot sports opinion. Hey welcome to the board G. Uaranteed! Any reason why you don't see Ked getting more reps? He may be our best post player other than Tony no?

He is the only one who posts up consistantly and knows that is his role, but I said that because Holeman and Edwards are better all round players. Not sure if they know their roles but seem to be ready to contribute.

I think we're all looking forward to improvement from Holmen, and a healthy season from Edwards, but neither of those guys are a lane-clogging, post player like Hogans. He's a senior and should provide leadership for the team. I'm with NT03 on this one. If his knees allow it, he should log the most minutes of anyone on the team this year.

Love the verbage!!! Lane-clogging will definitely be his thing, hopefully he can handle being a leader if so he could really help out! Defense was not a factor in my original comment, but we will see?!? Honestly don't think he can handle it, but thats just from playing against him in the rec.

Holmen has shown no ability to this point to play within an offense or to understand what a good shot is as opposed to a terrible one.

Edwards has shown no ability to remain 100% healthy...unless they heal up considerably, his knees will keep him to around 10 minutes a night.

While they both may have a better skill set than Hogans, neither has shown the ability to make that translate in the college game. Hogans is unquestionably the better rebounder, better defender...and while it's not pretty, he is the more efficient scorer and the only one of the 3 to prove he can do so when it counts...college games...not the REC.

ALSO...welcome to the board. Some background for the rest of you: Guaranteed22 knows his basketball and I'm very happy to have him to add to our discussions. Not to inflate his already out of control ego...when I came to UNT in 2001, I'd say this man was top 5 basketball player on campus (though I'm sure he thought he was the best)...that includes every member of that '01 Men's team.

That being said...it does raise the serious question as to why he's still hoopin' at the REC...you've gotta be closing in on 40, right? You were old when I showed up on campus.

Holmen was a defensive liability last year. Hogans was one of the best defenders and rebounders on the team. Absent VAST improvement form Holmen, he doesn't take 1 minute of playing time away from Hogans. I think we see Holmen's playing time cut this year.

Why do people completely forget about the defensive end o the floor when rating basketball players?

I'd agree for 95% of his career... But the last few games before and including his injury, he looked like a completely different guy. Passing up 3 pointers, driving, defending well in the lane, moving around within his assignments instead of wandering around lost... If he comes back the way he went out, we're finally going to get the Holmen we expected when he signed with us.

I would not be surprised if all the three of the returning front-court players being primarily bench strength by the end of the year Hogans is a senior and has demonstrated great heart and tenacity but is also both foul and injury prone. I like him more off the bench to provide instant energy. My view is that he is a good not great defender, there is a lot of difference in being a good shot blocker and being a good defender. He had an unexpected good offensive game before the injuries but never recovered that part of his game, Hogans will get a lot of minutes and will be an important part of the team.

Holmen and Edwards both are going to have to greatly enhance their games to see much of the floor this year. Holmen did look much better right before his injury but he has had a few good games before but has always lacked the consistency and a lot of times effort on the court. In my opinion he and Edwards both should concentrate on defense and rebounds and forget the three pointer. NT apparently has a team full of outside shooters. I thought last year that Holmen was probably the best athlete NT had on the team. With Jordan Williams, Jones, and Mitchell that probably won't be the case this year. However he could really be a difference maker if he improved his defense and inside offense. Edwards has played 4 years since high school and everyone is still waiting for that potential to be realized. He is apparently a good team player and has a great desire to excel but I don't see him being much of a factor this year

The three returners do all have a chance to play because the one failure of the great recruiting class was to get that gritty inside player. Mitchell may end up in that role but the consensus seems to be he will float a lot to the outside. The Parisian and Robinson also want to shoot the outside shoot but both could be descent inside men.

My guess is that NT will play a lot without a true post and depend on team rebounding instead of an Odufuwa type player. Jordan Williams and Franklin could be effective rebounders from the wing. Not sure many know but Jones can probably out jump anyone on the team. It will be an interesting year for sure.

So happy to have new people to bounce basketball ideas and thoughts off of. I like all three of these guys for different reasons.

Alonzo - Wanted that championship more than anyone on the team and did his part from the bench while injured and ailing.

Hogans - Had some really big offensive performances and got it rolling last year when the team needed him. It seemed that nothing was working offensively for a stretch last year and he proved he could step up and have big nights.

Holmen - As said before, he really improved in his selection and basketball IQ last year in the short amount of playing time. I really like his shot, just not from beyond the arc. I'd really like to see him turn those shots into mid-range shots.

Top 5?!? Censored by Laurie, appreciate the love! But for the record my ego has never been out of control, I'm just confident in my hoop skills! And yes I have been in the rec the past few weeks during my vacation (lifetime membership) and yes I am still capable of getting baskets @ 31 (not 40)! It has been a pleasure to see all the talent that Coach Jones and his staff have brought in, this is the most talent I have seen and I've seen a lot of teams!

I agree with the previous post a lot of the guys want to be outside players. I hope Coach Jones can define clear roles for the guys and they are receptive to the roles because that's what makes great teams! These guys have the potential to be really good tho! Definitely should be interesting

Edwards?!?!?!?! Ked is 1000x better...like I don't have a clue what brought you to that conclusion...Holmen is more of a 3 than anything...no need to compare the two, because they are nothing alike.
