I thought the most impressive performance was that of Dan McCarney, who is taking over the woeful North Texas program."

McCarney was very energetic and his excitement was palpable, especially after some pretty laid back discussions.

McCarney said he was glad to be a head coach again, and you could tell. After 11 years as head coach at Iowa State, he had been an assistant at South Florida at then Florida before NT lured him away.

McCarney was making $300,000-plus at Florida, so NT had to fork over about $500,000 per year to get him to Denton. Could be a pretty smart move.

Unlike his predecessor, McCarney has big-time experience and knows a D-I player when he sees one.

He has been pretty open about the fact he did not inherit many at NT and will need some time to get the players who can compete, but with a new stadium coming on line and NT serious about kicking in the bucks needed to get the Mean Green back in contention, it may not take long."
