I saw former Birdville WR Jonathan Dents running routes and catching passes with former players from Birdville, Richland, and Brewer. I remember him in HS and he was very good, physical, caught everything, and fast. He looked really good, smooth, bigger, and faster than I recall.

After playing some pitch and catch, to my surprise, he went over to the soccer field with those small fast soccer players. A couple of those soccer guys said they run 4.3. They were fast but I don't know. Anyway, Dents had no problem running away from those guys. The soccer guys couldn't believe that he was that big and could run that fast.

When he finished messing around with soccer, I asked him if he was playing college ball. He told me that he is talking to 3 schools (1 Big 12, 1 Big East, and 1 WAC) about transferring and has added UNT to his list after the dismissal of Darius Carey. Apparently, he hasn't talked to any of the UNT coaches yet but I could be wrong.

He dawned a red shirt his freshman year at Southeastern Louisiana. He would like to get back closer to home. It would be neat to see someone from my school playing football at UNT.

By the way, he told me that he's 6'2" about 215lbs. He doesn't look that heavy but has very broad shoulders and packing a lot of muscle.

Sorry for the long post. I just got excited about the possibility of seeing him in a UNT uni.

Tell him to call coach McCarney. I think that's the way it works with transfers - the player has to call the coaching staffs of the schools he's interested in attending. NCAA rules and whatnot.

Agree...

All alums should review NCAA rules as I don't think we at any time are to communicate with potential recruits. PonyGate probably had much to do with that ruling more than anything.

Good point. From what I understood, even though he hasn't spoken with any UNT coaches, he has been attempting to reach them. Apparently, he knows the drill because he's already been cleared through the UNT compliance office. He said the transfer process has a lot of rules.

This got me curious as to what the rules are for alumni/boosters so here are some helpful links in case anyone on the board wants to understand the rules a little better.

Does his middle name begin with an "A?"

Don't think so. Back in HS, he used jcd for different things. So, I guess his middle name begins with C.

Just curious. Your initials are JAD and you knew alot about Dents. Just making sure you weren't him.

No, not him. Was around him a lot for 2 years at Birdville. I was very involved with athletics at that time.

I sure hope he ends up here. Just wish he could play this year.

Is it for certain that he can't? My understanding is that Riley will be able to transfer to FCS McNeese (like Southeastern in the Southland) and play next year. Is it transferring between FBS schools that requires sitting out a year, or any D1 (which includes FCS)school. Or, is it the transferring up to FBS from FCS that would trigger the wait, compared to going the other way? Just asking.

Fbs to fcs transfers don't have to sit out. BS that the rule exists in the first place. At least isolate it to BCS teams

The rule keeps FBS schools from "recruiting" players from FCS schools. That is why they have to sit out a year if they transfer up or transfer between FBS schools.

That still wouldn't explain as to why FBS to FBS have to sit out. I guess one could say that it stops powerhouse teams from "potentially" stealing stars from lesser known schools even on the FBS level.
