An already weird college football offseason has gotten a little bit weirder thanks to the efforts of a Florida Atlantic football player.

According to TCPalm.com, cornerback Cortez Ash and another individual were arrested this weekend in connection to the theft of 400 pounds of copper wire.

The website reports that the bumbling duo “borrowed” the copper from a scrap yard at approximately 3:15 a.m. Saturday morning. We use the word “borrowed” because, unbelievably, the pair returned to the same scrap yard a few hours later and attempted to sell the material back to the business from which is what allegedly lifted.

Stupid is as stupid does! Some of this you just cannot make up! Life is truly stranger than fiction. Good grief!

That's as stupid as attempting to steal TV's from a hotel!

That is the equivalent of shoplifting a shirt from Dillards........and then returning it to the store to ask for a refund because it was the wrong size!

That actually happened when I worked at another retail establishment during college.

I meant that literally; not certain about any other implications or unintended sarcasm.

A few years ago in my friend's neighborhood - which is rapidly developing/expanding - there was a raid on all the copper lying around in the un-finished housing. I was told that it was being stolen because there is a lot of money in the "off market" for copper. It did not occur to me to ask "why?"

If I am misinformed, or somehow unintentionally offended anyone with some untimely erroneous grammar, I apologize.

Thanks for the clarification. I apologize for thinking otherwise.

It was a joke, and you are correct. Copper theft has been big for a couple of years now.
