ESPN is saying Urban Meyer and Gary Patterson are top candidates. Anybody heard anything of substance?

I just can't imagine Meyer would take the Buckeye job this soon after leaving Florida. I really think the guy wants at least a year away from coaching to collect himself. Of course the job will not be filled until after the 2011 season, so maybe one season off will be enough.

Patterson has had opportunities, but he has proven he is committed to TCU. But then again, I don't think he has ever had an opportunity on the level of Ohio State.

Nick Saban grew up near the Ohio line, played football at Kent State, and has been a head coach in the Big 10. Would he?

EDIT: Here's an article from USA Today on possible candidates.

They also mention Urban Meyer, as well as interim coach Luke Fickell, Bob Stoops, and Bo Pelini.

Here's another article on candidates, from the Orlando Sentinel: Add Mark Stoops, Jon Gruden, and Mark D'Antonio.

Ohio State has got to be the dirtiest program around.... Remember Clarette earlier and all that went with it, plus I seem to remember a scandal involving tutors writing term papers for athletes.... and now this is addition all that was being mentioned now...

Their philosophy seemed to be---"Just win and we will ignore the rest".

---SMU fans are the ones should really be mad if OSU doesn't get the death penalty.... they did..... and may have not done worse or as long or as many things wrong.

What SMU had going reached all the way to the board of regents. Can't get much dirtier than that.

tOSU is going to get slammed. There won't be another death penalty, but they are going to get hit hard. The NCAA may usually be a paper tiger, buth they don't like lying and coverups very much.

I predict the sanctions they put on the Buckeyes will be substantial and crippling for the next decade. It will be worse than what USC got hit with, and USC got hit pretty hard.

That's the way college sport go. This shouldn't be news to anybody. You won't get to become an Ohio State or a big time program if you dont cheat and bend the rules. I'll gladly take the label as being a dirty program/school if we get to the stature of the big whigs.

You don't get to cheat and bend rules unless you are an OSU or big-timer.

Chicken-egg loop, aahhhhh!!

Not me. I want nothing to do with this kind of crap.

...and I'm sick of hearing all the talking heads proclaim that "You CAN'T win without cheating!" STFU, all of you dirty, money grabbing b!tches. Raise entrance requirements, universally, while allowing for kids to go straight to the pros. Stop bringing kids onto college campus' that have no interest in actually being a college student or ever completing a degree program.

Sorry for the cursing. :) Just sick of all the bandaid solutions that get discussed/implemented that really do nothing but allow this crap to go on.

I am predicting now that Pryor will be a NFL bust. Does he have the skills to make it in the NFL...yes, the physical ones, but his ego and attitude may just do him in. I guess we'll see. The NFL certainly will not care much that he quit on the Buckeyes nor for the situation under which it took place.

He certainly won't be a QB...he may be like a Brad Smith/Kordell Stewart type player IF he even snifs the NFL playing field. I can live with players getting benefits but players being complete douches is what irks me. Pryor would definitely be in that doucher category.
