A very disappointing year in softball. This was a senior laden team, including Cantler who may be the best player in NT's short history, that just couldn't ever seem to get it together. A definite step back for a program that had been improving. Has NT ever failed to even make the tournament before? Also, a signal to all those that think that baseball would be an instant winner at NT. Softball is way past a new sport now, and has only had very limited success.

Softball is all about dominating pitching, and NT just didn't have enough this year. Unfortunately, what looked like a very good hitting club; also underperformed offensively. With most of the teams big bats graduating this year, the future looks far from bright.

but we did beat a couple of BCS teams I mean that makes it a great season right? Who cares about the Sun Belt, it is just a weak league and we need to get out ASAP. :thumbsd:

i think cantler actually put together a decent season. this year was better than almost all of hear years, besides her freshman year. it's odd what hubbard decided to do with having her moonlight as a pitcher.

martinez, cantler, and the rest of the seniors just got no support from the underclassmen. this year also illuminated severe issues with the coaching staff's recruiting philosophies...they should have had more pitchers in the bullpen.

they were good enough to beat any given team on any given day, just not good enough to put together a series of wins in a row.

really disappointing. thought this was going to be a banner year.

The 11.7 scholarship limit in baseball creates a lot more parity across division 1. It's a lot easier to pick up talent when Augie's offering little more than textbooks and a coupon to Subway.

Well, softball has a 12 ship limit, so there is no significant difference. Unless you factor in that softball pitchers can go every day versus baseball which requires a lot more pitching. Both softball and baseball are mainly played with partial ship players so there is no big difference.

Huh. Then I don't know. Pitching depth is a huge issue with baseball teams. The great teams vs. the merely good teams are separated by their bullpens and Sunday/Tuesday starters. This is especially true since the new bats came into play this year and you can't check swing a ball off the handle for a home run anymore.

I also don't know where the Sun Belt stands in the overall softball picture. In baseball it is a big up and coming conference, generally regarded as the 7th best in the country, immediately following the Big 6, and probably better than the Big West, a Big 6 Conference, this year (Think MWC vs. Big East in football over recent years). The location, the hot bed of talent for recruiting, the opportunity to play in a good conference with series and weekday games against Big XII and SEC teams, provide a lot of attraction for recruits.

I don't think baseball would be automatically successful here, but I think the opportunity is there. The two biggest variables would be facilities and coaching staff. The players are there for the taking.

Anyhoo, I just simply don't know enough about softball to tell if your comparison is valid or one of apples and oranges, so take all of this with a nice, big grain of salt.

      So sick of the crap this football program slings us

      I think some issues are being attacked. I think some of them are, unfortunately, tendencies. I'm not disagreeing with the uncertainty. I was just trying to wrap my mind around this "year 3" statement. You'll never not have both of the above. You just want to get to a point where the execution is positive enough to offset the negative, and the net/end result is meeting your expectations as a program.

      Should we add Texas State to the AAC?

      After the bowl, I’m of the opinion that we should have Texas State on the schedule for an annual home and home series, even if we aren’t in a conference with them. It was a great atmosphere. School is close. Large public Texas institution. Fans are fun and also like to party. What is not to like?

      A troll? I have been a fan, including student and alumni, since 1965. Think you've got me mistaken with someone else. 1. Do that every year. 2. Shirt giveaway for last night's retro night. They called it "Retro Night" and did nothing retro other than give out t's to the first 500 fans. How did they market that? Email to alumni and ticket holders three or four days prior. 3. Do people really look at the schedule and decide that frisbee dogs will make them attend? 4. Denton student day. I am assuming you are referencing the 11am tip-off women's game that, by nature of the tip time, limits attendance to those students. Sorry, I see a lack of creativity and effort because they were doing these same things in the mid 70's when I attended as a kid. I am well aware that we don't choose the announcers. Not by point. Do I think they provided them with incorrect information? Nope, that topic was probably never addressed in the production meeting, but someone from the department should be monitoring the broadcast to correct stupid comments like the one mentioned last night and referenced above. He was complimentary of UNT during the broadcast, but he pulled that "fact" out of his ass and someone should be there to correct them.

      Adding Texas State feels like such an easy call to me. It would be good for attendance and give our fans another easy road game.

      The prestige of the PAC is dead, and @NorthTexasWeLove is right: we are entering an era (if we aren't there already lol) where geography is a much bigger priority for non-Power leagues. I hope we do away with this notion that we should share a G conference with California or Washington schools. It's already a whip that we are in one with schools that sit just off the eastern coast. I don't get the idea of if-Tigers-go-we-need-to-follow. I think it makes more sense to be attached to Texas State than Memphis.
