Cool interview. Thanks for sharing.

T'anks.

There are one or two other things he mentioned that didn't fit into the flow of the way I wrote it. I wish I had a little more time/materials to put it into a podcast but I am content with it.

The conversation kind of meandered and we came back to one or two topics. I'm sure he has had some coaching on how to answer potential landmine-type questions. He didn't want to say anything too controversial and I don't blame him. Not too much good comes out of that. He did say enough to at least acknowledge what we have all suspected and is fairly obvious: even though there are a couple of die-hards, the program is not nearly as well-supported as everyone would like.

I asked him about how he feels about being a part of the construction crew, as it were, rather than the ones who will enjoy the thing when it is fully built. That is how we got to the "I'm glad to be a part of it." answers. I could sense something behind the standard answers he was giving me. When I pressed him (gently) on it, he admitted the stuff about playing with the new recruits. Summary: it would have been awesome to do that in front of USC/LSU/OU type crowds.

I made sure to thank him for all the good times and for playing a big part in what looks like (crosses fingers --hopes not to jinx it) the beginning of a push to even greater things.

Which brings me to the oddest part of the whole thing. As I was talking to him I realized that we are actively rooting for new players to come in and wash away his legacy.

That's how it always goes, and I know what you mean...in the case though, I don't think their legacy will ever be washed away. They were the foundation, and all of the success we will have in the future will be built upon them working their butts off and playing their hearts out for four years. If it weren't for them, we wouldn't have the recruiting class we have coming in next year. It is still sad that we won't get to see them playing in the super pit anymore.

I sure hope so. I'd hate to think that 5 or so years down the road we'll be talking about how they weren't truly "great" or that the Sun Belt they played against was watered down. Sure hope we don't look back and discount them because they never made the top 25...hope we really can be content with the portion of the fan base that they lit a fire in and the legacy that they put in place.
