Just another reason to appreciate UNT's contract extension for JJ. Some posters concerns about UNT declining in the later years of JJ's contract are way over blown in my mind. Looks like UNT will continue to be a "force to be reckoned with" over the next 3 to 5 years. UNT's BB future is looking brighter and brighter all the time. :thumbsu:

This incoming class is crazy. We have several nationally ranked players, plus several state ranked ones. This has to be one of, if not, the best class ever for UNT, especially given its first 5* player in Tony Mitchell.

4 Players in the State Top 30

1 Player in the National top 100

1 player in the national top 25

That is not rebuilding, that's reloading with talent that should be good enough to come in and compete from Day 1.

Exciting times for our two marquee programs.

Franklin is apparently an inside player, makes me wonder what NT will do with their last ship. If they go through and get another post like Miller, they are really going to be short at the guard position. They really only have Walton and Alzee Williams as true off guards with Norris and Jones at the point. Jordan Williams and Holmen can play the wing but any injury to one of the four guards and NT is back scambling for back court players. Will NT go for another guard at this point?

1s : Jones,Norris,Alzee

2s : Alzee,Walton,Franklin*

3s: Jordan,Franklin,Holmen,Franklin*,Mitchell*

4s : Hogans,Holmen,Edwards,Franklin*,Robinson,Mitchell*

5s : Knox,Hogans,Edwards, Robinson,Mitchell*

With Alzee coming off an injury , going after a guard may be the best option

Ronald McGahee would've fit perfectly in that 2 spot this year

I don't think Robinson will see much , if any, time at the 5

Coaches may feel Dwight Miller is too talented to pass up if there isn't a solid 2 guard option out there for us

If we don't get another guard , Tyler Hall is no scrub as a walk on. If he could just give us 5 minutes a game that would be huge

I could also see Jordan playing the two. I really think Miller at this point is too good to pass up. Another guard would be nice, but I think having a post who could come in and give us a low post game and rebounding is a need. Other than Hogans I think we are too unproven down low.

It's a gamble. If Franklin doesn't get the hardship, he will be a senior when he becomes eligible. UNT probably feels pretty good about the hardship. Hope they are right

He was a true soph last season so he still has his redshirt year if he is forced to sit out.

Agree with the general sentiment, but not the specific wording here. These are still a lot of freshmen and the majority of the team has never played together before and never in an NT uniform. Day 1 is a little ambitious... There are going to be unavoidable mistakes and a bit of a learning curve as they get used to playing as a team.

But what should have been a rebuilding year has potentially turned into a rebuilding month or month and a half... This team could be very dangerous by the time the new year hits.

I think they will struggle on the defensive end at least through the 1st half of conference play. How much will depend a lot on Franklin's eligibility. I would expect a strong push in the 2nd half of conference play.

Let's all try and remember Jones, Williams, Mitchell, Robinson, and Norris have never played a college game. Don;t be surprised by OOC struggles.

With all of this young talent coming in, JJ has got a bigger coaching challenge ahead of him than usual. It's a great problem to have, but figuring out the puzzle of who starts where, and who comes off the bench and such is going to be interesting to watch. Great signing, and I hope we can soon find that last big-time piece of the puzzle. It's going to be fun.

Personally, I'd rather go big, as in Dwight Miller.

At 6'5" Franklin would be one of the smaller 4s in Division I. Both he and Williams appear to be small forwards that would be better at shooting guard in a pinch than at power forward. In fact, I think that Franklin should be given strong consideration as a starter at the two.

We're not all that strong with the bigs. Unless they do a big turnaround Knox and Edwards are spot duty players. Robinson will be green and will have a large learning curve by coming from a small school. Mitchell will not be available until the second semester. Hogans is the only reliable player unless Holmen can somehow develop, assuming he doesn't remain a three. Big men are essential for defense and rebounding and a frontline of Hogans and Miller would give us the best chance for success.
