I am glad to see this question get it's own thread because it has been asked and answered...YES...even the Mean Green Club announcement sent around mentioned to "come early and tailgate". However, lots of folks still do not seem to know and it is important that the word get out to as many as possible...come early, tailgate, enjoy the spring game and then stay and tailgate some more. It's football...Mean green football...great stuff! See you there....

Odd thread title for the week that begins spring signing period in basketball.

I think emmitt meant to say , " Will the new signees be at the tailgate ? "

And for those looking to get some tailgating gear for a reasonable price...here are a few items.

First, I have come to favor the 9' "market umbrella" over the standard 10 ft shelters. The best price ($29.00) for a 9' umbrella is at Academy. They have a large selection of colors, including a dark green and a lime/kelly green.

The umbrellas tilt so that you can follow the sun and stay in the shade with very little effort.

The base is also reasonably priced.

For small groups (two or three people) this table, at Home Depot, would work well.

Here is a great place to get a tailgating flagpole.

And for those with a pickup who want to get rather creative with their seating.

Question about this unbrella. What keeps it from blowing over/away in a stiff wind? Thats the onlt thing keeping me from purchasing it.

Well, if the wind gets stiff enough most of the ease-up shelters get blown away too, unless they have a rope/cord tied to five gallon buckets full of cement at every corner. These umbrellas have vent flaps at the peak (like the newer ease-ups) to reduce the effects of wind gusts. Plus if you buy a base it has a screw in the neck to hold the umbrella pole.

Plus, you can always crank it down some to reduce the effects of the wind. Or crank it all the way down until the wind dies down some.

Or if you have a pickup with a trailer hitch-receiver, you can fashion a holder out of PVC pipe and a PVC "T"...and a couple of heavy duty cotter pins.

Thanks Silver. This thread has a lot of potential. I would love to see other "must haves" that people could link to.

...even if I can't afford them.

Well, it is my hope that lots of ideas get shared regarding tailgating.... and tailgating gear/ideas that would benefit people with limited funds.

Silver, you sensitive today? True, it's not really a tailgate item, but I found it searching for tailgating/outdoor items. Come on, it is pretty funny and amazing that someone probably cleared a few $$$$$ hawking these.

I guess I'm just getting tired of most threads devolving into mindless junior high bathroom jokes. The product you posted is odd, but in no way practical....and entirely too tempting for the emotional 7th and 8th graders that post on this board.

By all means start another thread about how we need a seven syllable chant to increase tradition at North Texas or talk alt how great things were under Frye as if those topics haven't been hashed out enough times already.

..and we haven't had enough bathroom and/or penis references? As a famous comedian once said, people who run out of good material always go for the crotch.

And BTW, I'd rather lament about the traditions that we don't have rather than continually wallow in the drivel that we do have.

Let's start a thread on proper spelling and grammar, you know, to rid the internet of those that spell "lose," "loose" and "Fry," "Frye.". Bastards!!

Let me know when you find a sports message board without tasteless jokes. This place is heaven compared to the crap I weeded through 10+ years ago.

FWIW, I think the derailing has been relatively low around here since Dodge was let go.

I'm tired of threads getting derailed by guys bitching about threads getting derailed.

Back to trying to be helpful. Here is the Academy ad that illustrates the color choices for the umbrellas (bottom of page). The "hot deal" at the top of the page is a pretty useful product for tailgating.....especially at the beginning of the season.

http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=catalog&target=weeklyad&pgNum=12

AND, here is a product that would be even more useful for hot weather tailgating.

http://www.yardlover.com/cool-camper-6-outdoor-misting-system-by-misty-mate

And for those who don't want to be bothered with occasionally pumping the above listed unit, here is a 12 volt system.

http://www.mist-er-comfort.com/portable.php

And yet another 12 volt system that looks pretty viable.

http://www.mistcooling.com/aircooler_mobileac.htm

I'm going to see if I can make my own portable misting unit by using a product similar to this

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100637818/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

by just adding the tubing, fittings, and in-line shut-offs.
