Well, that's what makes horseraces, I know. But the mentality has just become so much either run and gun, or pass the ball two or three time and jack it up, that all the old subtle things that made good basketball are disappearing, it seems to me.

I think the way basketball has changed since my dad played high school in the 70's is the game leans havily toward physical, whereas it used to be finesse. Now, imagine the game without the three point line...if every shot is worth two points, every team will increase their chances of making a field goal and pound it in every possesion. The game would be even MORE physical than it is now and the long range jump shot will be useless. The three point line keeps heavy value on being able to shoot long range, and without it, the long range shot would go the way the mid-range shot has already gone...nowhere to be found.

I like the lane and the 3-point line where they are now. I would prefer a return to the 45-second clock instead of 35 seconds. I think the refs should call the games a little tighter. When one player pushes, elbows, or forearms another it should always be a foul. Fouls should be called for moving screens. I would like to see an automatic flagrant foul called when someone from behind, with no chance to stop a layup or dunk, hammers the shooter. Also flagrant fouls should be called when someone hammers the shooter immediately after he releases the ball.

I didn't like the 35 second shot clock at first, but now I think I prefer it to the old 45 second one. It's a tough call though. The old clock definitely benefited Cinderella in the tourney, but I think the game moves at a better clip now.

Maybe they should split the difference with a 40 second clock. wink.gif
