Aston, a former Baylor and Texas assistant, took over from now-Florida coach Amanda Butler in 2007. She led Charlotte to 86 wins, one Atlantic 10 title, one NCAA tournament appearance and three berths in the WNIT. Charlotte never won fewer than 18 games with Aston and set a school record with 27 victories this season before falling at Toledo in the WNIT semifinals.

Well, based on the success she has had at Charlotte, if I were the AD I might be "shocked and disappointed" as well. Always tough to lose a successful HC, but, if you are a "Charlotte" of the world of NCAA sports you just have to know that schools will come looking for your coaches if they prove successful. Tough deal for Charlotte, but I am hoping a winning deal for UNT. If true, this seems to be a great catch and hire by RV. Now, she just needs to go to work and undo the damage to the team that Coach Stephens seems to have done the last few years. Getting this team back will have as much to do with showing the team that as their HC you will not only coach them but you will support them both on and off the court and that playing can be fun as well as hard work as it will have to do with actually winning. The winning on the court will come...this coach has proven that she can coach at the D1 level, but winning the team's confidence back after the "Stephens years" should be priority #1.
