Sweet victory for the Aggies and they have chance with that monster upset in game 2.

Way to go TAMU!

Not sure beating Notre Dame would be a huge upset. Beating Connecticut would've - but the Irish just took down the Huskies. I believe this was the first defeat for Connecticut to a non Stanford team in 4 years.

What a great way to start the week, with the UConn women losing. Come on Butler and make it a clean sweep. Oh, and go TAMU.

Congratulations to Coach Blair and the Lady Aggies! I’ve never pulled for A&M in any sport before now. I got to know Coach Blair well; after graduating from NT. I closely followed the dynasty he built at SOC (Which never lost a game to another Dallas school) the 7 years he was there. Didn’t take long for the community to accept this white guy with a start-up girls program. The only criticism he ever encountered at SOC was refusing to allow the girls to exceed 99 points. Many games were over after the 1st quarter. After winning every DISD Christmas Tournament, (which included many suburban schools as well) Blair refused to participate anymore. Many of the state’s top programs refused to participate to protect their records) Looking for greater competition, SOC began playing in the nearby Duncanville Tournament. While coaching a team 50 point better than its opponent, Blair was able to develop many of his girls to All-State and All-Americans teams. The first was Barbara Brown. (Current Athletic Director @ SOC); 2 sisters, Kim & Debra Rodman, were at one time better than their 5-11 brother, Dennis.

Having achieved all individual and team goals, Blair looked for another challenge; at the college level. He built to the premier Girls basketball program in the state. With an opening at NT, Blair applied. Unfortunately for him, NT was not interested in a male high school coach, albeit, South Oak Cliff. Blair accepted an assistant job at Louisiana Tech before becoming head coach at Stephen F Austin. Each program became National powers. Blair later was named the Head Coach at Arkansas and in a short time, took UA to its first Final Four. In about the same amount of time, Blair has the Aggies in the National Title Game. (With Desoto’s Sydney Carter)

Despite his success at A&M, UA, La Tech and SFA, Blair still maintains that SOC was his best job ever. Prior to their Regional games at the AAC last weekend, Blair brought the entire team to Brooklyn’s Jazz club in Downtown Dallas; to mingle with former SOC players, fans and staff.

In his seven seasons at South Oak Cliff, he set a state record with five consecutive state tournament appearances and a 239-18 record. His teams won three state Class 4A championships, in 1977, 1978, and 1980, and finished as the runner-up in 1979 by only two points. For his efforts, Blair was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

Open the mind Eppy. Ladies sports are not as thrilling all of the time, but those 2 games yesterday were really good. Hearing the Aggie coach say, "this is what woman's basketball needs" is absolutely correct. The domination by UCONN and TN was not good for the game. I still believe it is a different game and don't equate UCONN's run to UCLA's back in the day, but the athletes put in just as much work as the men do. I also believe cheerleaders are athletes with the amount of work they put in.

Very proud of my neice from San Antonio O'Connor who received a scholarship to Penn State for Women's Volleyball. She starts PSU in the fall, and I will be tuning into the Big 10 Network to see her play. What is really cool is that if the defending national champion Nittany Lions can get back to the final four later this year, she would get to play in front of tons of family and friends in the Alamodome. My cousin is tall, strong, smart and athletic and her hard work is going to reap some benefits.

So go TAMU! Even if it is only to see the female Charles Barkley on the court, it is worth a tune in. She is a beast! Bring back another championship to Texas!

Had no idea about all that. Good post. Much appreciated.

Didn't Baylor defeat UConn earlier this year ?

All of you guys trying to act like you care about women's basketball need to start being real. Who really cares? I'm sorry but I just can't watch the ladies miss wide-open layups, lose their dribble, and trip over their own feet. Just doesn't entertain me for one second. Oh and also, I never ever cheer for A&M. So, go Irish.

While I admit womens basketball is kinda far down on my list of sports priorities, I do usually watch the Final Four and National Championship game. If only because I won't see another game till November. I do watch the NBA playoffs, but to me nothing beats the college game. Hence it's almost time for the 7 month off season. The women's final is sort of the goodbye till fall..

I suppose you could say the same thing about the men's game that happened last night?

There are people who don't care what you or I think because the like what they like.

I'd like to think that Skylar Diggins will be my wife in a few years, so I'll cheer for them.

That works fine. I'm not interested in getting married, and by the time she figures that out, it should mesh up perfectly with your few-year plan.

I would have liked it better if Baylor was in there, but hey any Texas school works for me.

Well, now that Schaefer(?) has done all that he can do as an assistant coach in women's college basketball, maybe this is the right time for him to come to Denton.

Let's hope so

You should try watching women's D1 basketball, because, by what you described above, you haven't been.
