Basketball: Former Ryan coach Trammell leaving UNT

04/25/2003

By Tim MacMahon / Staff Writer

Latricia Trammell is leaving North Texas after spending one season as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball team.

Trammell spent the previous three seasons as the girls head coach at Ryan, where she compiled a 64-33 record and won two district titles.

Trammell said she plans to remain in coaching at the collegiate level and has interviewed for assistant jobs at Ohio and Santa Clara and been offered an assistant job at Texas Woman’s University.

Trammell and UNT head coach Tina Slinker both said the decision for Trammell to leave was mutual.

"Coach Slinker is a wonderful person, and I appreciate everything she has done to help me get my feet in the door at the collegiate level," Trammell said. "But we are just headed in two different directions philosophy wise. I think it’s better for me and for her if I take one of these other opportunities that I have."

Added Slinker: "She has a lot of great qualities and a lot to give, but I think fits are very important."

Trammell’s contract expires April 30, and Slinker said the earliest she could fill the position is May 10.
