I figured UALR would be a 16 seed. Probably even have to play a play-in game.

What a strange bracket setup by the NCAA. An 11 and 12 seeds have to play in? Wacked.

Well, it's the last 4 "at large" teams -- so I think that's a more fair way to do it then by making conference champs play the opening games.

I guess "fair" is debatable. I would say the 60 best teams shouldn't have to play in the first 4 games. This does give the fans better games. I'm more interested in 11/12 games than the 16 seed games. Doesn't matter much because none of these teams will make it to the Final 4.

I would say any team that wins its league shouldn't be required to play an extra game.

The NCAA takes conference champs and then the next 37 at larges. At larges, by definition are only "selected" -- wheras Champions have already played their way in by winning their league.

CMJ, this could be interesting...

So if Central Arkansas miraculously got hot on the 3 and won the Southland's automatic (and only) bid with their only 4 wins of the season in the conference tourney, do they get seeded out of the play-in games? Does OSU get shafted the benefit of the overall #1 - playing the worst team in the field - because an auto-bid does not have to do play-ins?

In other words, does the benefit of winning your conference tourney possibly supersede the benefits supposedly afforded the overall #1?

Honestly with the S curve, I'm not exactly sure how the 65-68 teams are seeded. If 65 plays 68 and 66 plays 67, then who is OSU slated to play? I'd think they'd be matched up with the 66/67 winner because in theory, that is the weaker potential match up (provided 65 wins).

But, even in your scenario -- the 4 worst teams in the field would be 16's and would be matched up with 1's in their first game. They just wouldn't have to play EACH OTHER first. I have absolutely no issue with Play ins for the 11/12/13 seeds (wherever the break off point is for at larges). And that way the 1seeds still get to play 16's. But half the fun of the opening round is the little guys getting their shot. If little guy has to play little guy first, and only some of the little guys get their shot -- it cheapens the greatness of the event.

My mind is rooting for LR, but my heart hopes they get humiliated.

As soon as they show up there in those dime store uniforms.... mission accomplished.

Anybody else see UALR just blow down the court and score a 3 point play with 6.? seconds left? Kind of fitting.

Does everyone still think we should have picked them up full court?

I was gonna say the same thing. Just carved that up.

UNC Asheville 81

UALR 77

Final

Trojans basically controlled the action for about 37 minutes of game time but Asheville manages to force OT and without 2 starters (including Bozeman) UALR struggled to score. Oh well, that's that. Hopefully FAU has a good showing in the NIT tomorrow.

Mouzy took 10 shots (all from 3 land) and only made 1, but he somehow managed to drain that backbreaker against us. Of course he had a little help from his friend on that shot. Hope FAU can at least get the SBC a win.
