I know this has been mentioned in other threads, but now that the bids are starting to go out, I figured I would start a new thread. This year, the CBI will have 16 teams, and the CIT will have 24 teams (one of which is the Great West Conference Champion).

Northern Iowa will host a home game in the CIT: UNI to CIT

I really think we need to buy our way into one of these tournaments. If the team can get up for it, we have a chance for a lot of success, and it would be good for the fanbase. For what it's worth, the fact that Northern Iowa went from knocking off Kansas in the NCAA to the CIT makes me feel a lot better about our situation.

I tried to make the tourney abbreviations all caps in the topic title, but it automatically changes it...my OCD is going crazy... :(

I'm trying to remember how much it costs exactly to buy your way in...we did this research acouple years back. I think it was something like 25K and 50K to host or something for the CBI? The CIT was slightly cheaper -- and they are more concerned with getting teams outside the BCS conferences to play (the CBI doesn't give a crap, Cincy got invited with 11 wins a couple years ago because they paid to play in it).

It was something like that CMJ...I'm still holding out hope. To be completely honest, if I had a choice between getting blown out in the NCAA (which I am not saying would happen, but is always a possibility when playing a top 8 team), or winning a few games in any one of the three other post season tournaments, I would choose the latter.

I think the Seniors deserve it, and the funding would be worth the publicity if we did well. I know I personally would enjoy a continuation of this team. Hard to believe all those guys are going away after all these years. I say open up the wallet!

I agree completely. We have a special group here and if they want to give it another go I say lets do this. Barring we somehow get an NIT bid this would be a great opportunity. Anyway someone can contact RV about this?

It depends on the guys completely. They may not want to go after being so close to the NCAA's. If they do want to play, I'd take a long hard look at it - because if any group deserves to, it's them. If by chance we played for the title at home in either, I'd probably even fly into town to see it. The CBI title round is a best of 3, so we'd be assured of at least one home game if that played out.

I think we'd be more likely to end up in the CIT, tho I don't suspect we'll play in either.

East Tennessee State has received an invitation to the CIT: Link

ETSU (RPI 95) is yet to accept.

The article also says the cost to host a game is $31,500. The visiting teams have expenses for 22 people paid for. The CBI charges 80k-100k.

There are also other teams rumored to have invites pending an NIT bid:

Tennessee Tech (RPI 192  )

Furman (RPI 118)

Marshall (RPI 52)

Air Force (RPI 106)

Davidson (RPI 190  )

Just for the heck of it, SMU's RPI is 207. North Texas is at 135.

If we're still too cheap to host, and the guys want to play, it would sure make me happy if we played at Air Force next week since I'm going to be in Colorado. If Quinnipacpac can afford to host, I just don't see why The University of North Texas cannot even afford to play.

Portland (RPI 108), Hawaii (RPI 153), and Santa Clara (RPI 158) have all accepted CIT bids now.

11 of the 24 spots in the CIT are now filled.

ETSU has been invited, but has not yet accepted or declined.

Marshall, Tennessee Tech, and Davidson are rumored to have been invited.

Quinnipiac is a private university about 15 minutes north of New Haven...despite it's proximity to a top 10 university, QU's tuition is about $32,850/year. Yale is about $36,500. QU has a beautiful athletic complex and can easily afford the buy in.

In my dealings, save for their law school, QU is where area rich people send their dumb kids.

This is going to be pathetic if another quality season ends with no postseason invitation. If we have to pay, then find a way to pay. Positive exposure, even in lesser tournaments, is vital to a program's development. If other SBC schools can afford to buy their way into one of these (as has happened in recent years), then shouldn't we be able to do the same? I just feel like the seniors have earned the right to one more shot.

Maybe they don't want to?

Well, that's certainly a possibility, and I would obviously respect the players' opinion on such a matter. All I ask is that the university/athletic department announce their decision and the reasoning behind it.

Until the final, the national buzz likely wouldn't consist of much more than our name on a scoreboard, but if we do well the local buzz could be significant. Especially if we get matched up with the punies to the south. The banner raising next Fall would also be nice for recruiting and such since we just missed out on a couple of banners this year. We really ought to give it try, unless as CMJ mentioned the players aren't into the idea.

I'm very conflicted on the whole deal, which I believe I've made clear (especially in private convos to a few of you). I'm personally not for playing, but if we do - you know I'll be tuning in and hoping we win the damn tournament.
