A better question is: Why is Sheffield splitting playing time with Miles Coleman? I get it that Sheffield shouldn’t play EVERY down, but last few weeks it has been about 50/50. Based on production, it should be 80/20 in favor of Sheffield. Unless Sheffield doesn’t run the right routes, won’t block or is late for meetings.
Miles Coleman is fine. But he hasn’t put anything on tape even close to what DT Sheffield is capable of.
We could probably money whip just about any MAC or Sun Belt DC. Regarding the guy I posted, he was also DC at Sac State for 3 years. He's got decent experience and Texas ties. I also don't think we'd have to pay Caponi salary to get him here.
G5 programs need to put this stuff up in their locker rooms and start beating it into their players heads how unlikely it is that players do better after transferring. Signs of players with their UNT stat lines and then their next years stat lines would be quite eye opening. Even if you had to hang a few success stories, they would be far outnumbered by the failure stories like Rogers and Maclin, who went from 57 catches for 1,004 yards with UNT to 13/313 and sitting at home for bowl season with Kentucky.
