For those of you that have been there, if I've not already procured lodging, am I looking at an uphill battle this late in the game? Any idea the average rates of place?

Yes, I realize I could do internet research, but I'm lazy and I'd rather get first-hand info from people that dun been there.

should be able to drive and fine room for less than $100 per nite. best option would be to contact cooper jones at athletic department. he has a number of rooms blocked off at tourny rate, which offers slight savings.

And my follow up question is, does anyone that's been there know of good live music venues in Hot Springs? Thanks way in advance.

i have not been there in person, but heard that HOG BAR has c&w music, and free drinks on fridays for all toothless women. word is that you need to arrive early to beat the crowd. however, this could just be another urban mith.

If you want a taste of old time Hot Springs, I'd recommend the Arlington Hotel. Last time we stayed about five years ago, it was in need of a major renovation, but the grand old resorts like this are quickly going the way of dinosaurs. On weekends, they had live music in the "Zoo Bar" but I suspect it is not what you are looking for...unless you like swing dancing and foxtrots!

Checking Trip Adviser, I see there are a good number of complaints about the Arlington, so maybe it has gone even more downhill since we were there. At the very minimum, I'd have a look around.

As far as attractions go, too bad that the I.Q. Zoo has closed. I'd never seen a rooster operate a cash resister so fast in my life!

We are staying at the Austin, which is walking distance to downtown, Lucky's Bar (the official Mean Green spot), and the arena. Not the best of hotels, but a great location and perfectly acceptable. I believe the team is staying there again. I think it was $115 a night, but you can find cheaper by going farther south between downtown and the lake.

As far as live music, I'm sure a local can help you find a good spot somewhere. There was actually more of a nightlife scene than I expected.

I can't exactly vouch for "good" live music venues there, but here are a couple of places you might want to check into:

Maxines - Seems to be the most happening live music venue the past couple of years that I've seen.

Lucky's - Home of the NT radio show and pre-post game gatherings while the tournament is in town. Has small stage.

Bogarts - Large venue by Hot Springs standards. Not sure about their live music schedule.

Also, I think they have a venue at the Race track where they host live performers. Not entirely sure about this though.
