Track & field: UNT breaks three school records

FORT WORTH — North Texas qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional in four events and set and three school records fell at the TCU Invitational Saturday.

Ryan Lancon (pole vault), Jerome Carrothers (shot put), Ananka Clark (100 and 200 meters) and the women’s 400-meter relay team of Clark, Osaze Aghedo, Chastidy Russell and Denton product Rhonda Williams all earned trips to the regional meet, which will be held May 30 and 31 at the University of Nebraska.

Clark broke her own school record in the 100 with a time of 11.54 second, .08 faster than the previous mark. She qualified in the 200 with a time of 23.82, which is the second-fastest time in school history. The women’s 400-meter relay team qualified with a time of 46.02, the third-fastest in school history.

Lancon also set a school record in the pole vault with a first-place vault of 16-8 3/4. Frank Sykora set the previous record of 16-6 3/4 in 1996.

In the discus, Jessica Henderson, with a throw of 148-10, easily eclipsed Allison Coggins’ school record of 143-11.

Carrothers qualified in the shot put with a throw of 53-9 3/4.

UNT’s next meet is Saturday at Rice.
