The North Texas Softball team starts play tomorrow (Feb. 10) with a tournament in Arizona where they will play 6 games in 4 days (including 3 matchups vs. Pac 10 schools). They also have a lot of big name schools coming to Denton. I got to know a couple of the team members over the years, and it really means a lot to them when they have good fan support. I know it is not baseball, but it is the closest thing we have, and they are actually pretty good. They were picked to finish 4th in the SBC, behind ULL and FIU, and were basically tied for third with Troy (only 1 vote behind). The program as a whole is still very young, and is really starting to take off. I'm going to post a couple links underneath this, as well as the dates for all of the big home games. Please try and make it out and support the team if you live around the Denton area. These games are actually really fun, and the facility is pretty nice.

Notable Home Games:

1. Nebraska: Friday, February 18. 3:00pm

2. Oklahoma: Wednesday, March 2. 6:00pm

3. UTEP: Friday, March 4. 3:00pm

4. Louisiana Tech: Friday, March 4. 5:30pm

5. Mississippi: Saturday, March 5. 3:00pm

6. Louisiana-Lafayette: Saturday, March 12. 2:00pm (DH) AND Sunday, March 13. 11:00am. - ULL is a perennial SBC power, and is usually ranked in the top 25.

7. Baylor: Wednesday, March 16. 4:00pm. (DH) - UNT swept Baylor in a DH in Waco last year when the Bears were ranked #24.

8. Missouri: Wednesday, March 30. 4:00pm. (DH)

Hopefully a lot of you can make it out to some games. In addition to knocking off #24 Baylor twice last year, UNT also beat #15 Texas here in Denton as well. These are fun games, and makes for an ok substitute for baseball right now. Go Mean Green!

MGM,

Let me second your good good for Mean Green Softball. The stadium the girls play in is great. As I have said previously, this is my second favorite NT sport. The ladies look like they are having a blast playing their game...dugout chants, music chosen by the player as they come to the plate, pick ups backed up to the outfield fence...fun times.

I am out of town a lot, but when I can make it up there, I am looking forward to seeing the ladies play.

(I have a catch at the fence that Mariza Martinez made to rob #15 UT of a home run as my screen saver...we won that game last year...UT AT HOME, 1-0)

To add to the key games this year, let me suggest the three charity games NT will host. In lieu of admission, the team will sell T-shirts and accept donations for designated charities.

**Play for Kay Game, benefiting DFW's Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: Wednesday, March 9 in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. against Missouri State. In its fourth year, the charity game is named on behalf of Kay Johnson, a North Texas employee who is in remission from leukemia.

**Wounded Warrior Project: March 30 against Missouri at 4 p.m. Missouri advanced to the College Softball World Series last year and is facing North Texas for the first time.

**Strikeout Cancer: Wednesday, May 4 against UTA at 6 p.m. The Mean Green and the Mavericks compete in a home and away series every year and each team hosts a Strikeout Cancer Game. ALWAYS FUN TO WATCH NT BEAT UTA, regardless of sport!

Coach TJ Hubbard is a really good guy. This team will appreciate your support.

Those are definitely good additions to the "notable home games" untcambpell. Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet you at one of the games.

UNT opened the season tonight with a win, beating Cal State Bakersfield 8-4 in 11 innings. (In softball they are only supposed to play 7  ) Hopefully they aren't too tired for their 2 games tomorrow.

Excellent opening win for the Mean green. You go, ladies. I will do my best to go to a few games this season. I have to admit that I am not a big softball fan, but as untcampbell posted earlier, these ladies would appreciate the support...and they are the Mean Green. So, I hope to get out to a couple of games this year...I'd like to experience that stadium in person!

GO MEAN GREEN!

Here is a link to the live stats for the Stanford game: Live Stats

They run in the background so it lets you just check in every once in awhile if you don't wish to actively follow.

The game is currently tied 1-1 in the top of the third.
