...and he never played a down of WR at North Texas. John Thomas Smith (#44 on your program) was an outstanding receiver in HS (Sweetwater?), but he as a ball-hawking-hard-hitting safety at North Texas. He was also one of the best all time punt returners at North Texas.

I'd put him in as a starter at safety on my all-time NT defense.

Certainly, the best receiver to come out of North Texas:

Well, not so certainly. There was a certain Ron Shanklin. He didn't have that stats of J.T., but his big-game exposure was impressive.

And it was more than 105 yards, more like 109 1/2, and doesn't get credited for even 105 by the NCAA.

Why do I suspect if he had been wearing orange when he did that he would have been credited by the NCAA?
