Mean Green Volleyball Signs Tara Hooser

DENTON (4/16/03) -- The North Texas volleyball team signed Tara Hooser, a 6-0 outside hitter from Montgomery, Tex., to a national letter of intent on Wednesday.

Hooser was a four-year starter for Montgomery High School, where she led the team to the regional quarterfinals of the playoffs the last three seasons. She ranked 11th in the greater Houston area in kills as a senior with 2.9 per game. For her efforts in 2002 she was named First-Team All-District, her high school Co-MVP, All-County Player of the Year, and will be a participant in the Texas High School All-Star game this summer.

A very well-rounded athlete, Hooser was also a three-year starter on the varsity softball team at Montgomery High. She was named Second-Team All-District and All-County in 2001 and 2002.

"Tara is a very good athlete that is going to bring a different look to our offense as a left-handed hitter," said North Texas head coach Cassie Headrick. "She hasn't tapped her potential in terms of what she can do as a volleyball player, and we are very excited about the versatility that she is going to bring to this team in the future."

I don't know how many of you have seen the volleyball team play here at UNT, but I wanted to let you all know that this upcoming season should be a great one for this program. For the past three years we have been reguilding this program and have some of the top athletes within the Sun Belt Conference on this team. Next year the roster will include 5 seniors and 10 returning players off of a team that went 10-5 in conference play last year and nabbed the #3 seed overall going into the Conference Tournament.

If you haven't seen this team play or haven't seen college volleyball I invite you out to a match sometime next fall. The game is extrememly fast paced and fun.

If you don't follow the team there are a couple of athletes that may be of great interest to you. Corina Marginas is a 6'1 outside attacker from Romania. She broke the CAREER record for kills here at UNT her sophomore year and should be the Sun Belt pre-season player of the year next season as a senior. She received all-american nominations as a junior and she really is something to see. We have two transfers on the team- our setter from Baylor (is an all-conference player) and another 6'0 OH from West Virginia.

Again, check us out when you don't have a football game to attend. We don't charge admission and hopefully find yourself hooked!
