100% agree that we have more pressing needs, but not a lot of resources are needed to grab low hanging fruit. 12 miles down the road is easy pickings, one phone call, one visit, kid can play, at a high level, and is a complete back in all regards. A pipeline into his district wouldn't be a bad move either.

true...no excuse that a visit isn't made with the numbers that he put up and the close proximity to the school.

I still can't believe no one has offered Joe Minden. I know we're set at QB...but I think someone's gonna get a good player if they offer him.

As to the D lineman mentioned in the article, I looked him up. Marcquel Sheppard is listed as being 5'10", 270....so I'm sure the height is why he has no offers. But still.....in my years of following NT....some of our best defensive linemen have been 5'10 or shorter: Walter Chapman, "Booger" Kennedy, Jimmy Odoms.

I'd definitely allow Marcquel to walk-on....if no one offers him. Heck he was Def. MVP of a pretty good 4A league.

poor tackling can make people look really good.

That said, if he is 6' or taller and truly has 4.5/4.6 speed why not recruit as a safety?

I would agree with the poor tackling statement and saw some of that in the video. He also breaks tackles and forces a missed tackles all over the place. Most importantly is that he is thinking on his feet and can project where the holes are going to be. I think I also saw a 1 handed reception in the first stages of the video. Not bad!

I think NT should get Hunter's press agent, he is getting a lot of ink. The facts are that no one not even a fc school has thus far offered him a ship. Why, do you think if he is such a great player that this is occurring?. Facts, are there hundreds of good to great high school players that just don't project to the college ranks. For every Kennedy or Quinn that is successful there are many more that fail. It comes down to a coaching decision of who they can recurit has the optimun chance to help the team. It is an interesting artcile because it states that he is almost identical to his teammate with a ship to Notre Dame but then goes on to say he is not as strong or as quick.

I would be happy if he got a ship from NT because it would be an interesting career to watch. However, with this NT team if a borderline player is recruited; it might make a lot more sense to go for a defensive tackle a la Cantly of a couple of years ago.

And if on Feb 2nd we look up and the rest of our spots are filled with more pressing needs, ala DT or any Oline, then I would be more than happy that we passed, but with 17 on board, unless we get a bunch of last minute guys, I'd hate to see a scholly go ungiven when I think this kid could help in a number of ways.

And agreed, he must have family in Belo.

I can attest (first hand, and not from the stands mind you) how good this kid is. West Virginia finally got smart and gave the scholarship to Paul Millard. The same will eventually happen for Hunter. Someone is going to get a great player. Being an alum, it IS frustrating that they have not pursued him as of yet.

I believe that article says McDaniel is a little quicker but Lee is a little stronger. I would definitely bring in the McKinney North DL if no one else offers. We need all the defensive help we can get. .
