You compete with 3 other members of the Big 12 Conference + OU in this state, or so they think, for recruits. Then you cancel a game in probably its most fertile ground as recruiting goes, and you STILL cancel when TCU offers to move the game to Cowboys Stadium. But you keep your games with Nevada and New Mexico. Here is the link:

TECH CANCELS NEXT YEAR'S GAME WITH TCU

It will be the "we ain't got nothing to gain and everything to lose" thing from Tech aimed at TCU. I honestly believe that worn out philosophy was born in the old Southwest Conference truth be known. Jeez, what a bunch of social climbers we have in Texas football collegiate circles, though.

Fact is, TCU has not established itself as a long term success story just yet and many of the Big Boys from the AQ conferences will still want to call them a flash in the pan that they will want the Frogs to get their "flash" somewhere else besides their campus stadia.

I think most of us tend to pull for the TCU's and Boise's of the college football world, though, since that will be our lot in college football life when we start emulating both of those programs.:thumbsu:

TCU never plays anybody, thus they don't deserve to play for a national; title.

Oh, by the way, no one will play them. See how that works?

Texas Tech is probably the bump they need to show people they're for real.

Nope. That would be the Big East. In 2 years. When TCU immediately becomes THE biggest evil in the metroplex. Dare I say, a bigger Evil than SMU?

Amazing how transparent that whole argument is, yet the talking heads will continue to roll it out every chance they get. I have people at my work who will argue until they are blue in the face that "nobody is ducking TCU and Boise...they don't play anybody because they're scared of being exposed".

People don't really say or think TCU and Boise are bad teams. From top to bottom AQ schools play a tougher schedule from week to week and that is a fact. There is no need to add TCU and Boise and strengthen their already difficult schedule.

What Tech did was pretty pathetic because the agreement was already there. But teams not willing to schedule them is perfectly understandable and it is nothing against TCU and Boise...everybody knows they are good teams.

Good enough to start the year #4 in the polls, have everyone in front of you lose, have 2 teams not originally ranked in the top 10 pass you for the 2 top spots, all the while doing everything you are supposed to do, including beating the #5 team in the nation 50 some odd to 10 some odd AT THEIR STADIUM, and winning every game on your schedule.

And you move up exactly 1 spot in the pre-bowl rankings. One spot from the start of the year.

Yep, everyone believes they are a good team alright. Just not good enough to compete with the high and mighty, even after a neutral sight road victory against the #4 team in the nation (which, by the way, all those people who consider them a "good" team, called a fluke).

Your right, life is fair.

Their AD gets paid a lot of money to take advantage of opportunities like this open slot. I agree it's not fair, but if you're a #1 team, what's a couple of road games against a top 10 team at this point to balance out the conference schedule?

This spot should be looked at as an opportunity for them to play someone besides Tech and outside of the Big 12 to make a national statement -- even if they don't get the home and home.

Their conference schedule is a factor. I don't like the whole system either but I understand it. Don't look at the BSU wins against VT and a weak OSU team. Who else did they play? Ok I will give you Nevada but they face the same obstacle BSU faces...the conference. Based on the system in place BSU and even TCU didn't deserve to be in the national championship game. And again...I am saying based on the current system. On a one game basis nobody is disputing that Boise or TCU could beat anybody...but this isn't just about one game...its the whole season and their conference affiliation.

The current system doesn't disprove that TCU could run the table in an AQ. But it is what it is...a lack of a playoff. Thus there will always be someone feeling left out.

My beef had always been the money distribution. The cash cows keep getting fatter, with the "what have you done for me lately" attitude. It is a hairy argument and I don't have the solution, but I wonder if the NCAA should step in and regulate funding/profit for member athletic departments to increase parity. Similar to why they enforced a scholly limit years ago.

Back to topic, this entire thing would be about Tech being "afraid to play the big boys" if TCU was already in the Big East.

Name me one top 25 Big 6 conference team that will risk TCU, even at home, on their schedule next year. Ain't gonna happen. Why? because they don't have to play TCU, because they are a Big 6 confeerence team. Again, the vicious circle.

Big difference between TCU this year and BSU last year: TCU started the season ranked higher than both teams that played for the national title. And did everything they were supposed to do to move up. They weren't allowed to be among the privileged. Why? Biggest nightmare for the privileged is a TCU winning the national title. Anyway, huge difference between TCU this year and BSU last

TCU is not in the Big East until 2012. They are still a member of the MWC next year.

I agree the system sucks and it's not going to be easy -- but it's part of his job to find a way to make it happen. Get creative -- find a neutral site, offer money...he's got nothing to lose -- and can even gain from leaking a few names of who said no.

Sad thing is, if there was ever a time for a Big 6 team to schedule TCU, it would be next year. They are graduating a ton of seniors and will probably be a little down. Plus, you get the bump from beating their reputation.

The fear of the underdog by the Big 6 is quite humerous at times.
