I like how they're given a #23 just because they are Texas yet there are a ton on questions about the program. Isn't ranking them at #23 just feeding that sense of entitlement?

I'd have to say it's a little more than name alone. They have had a Rivals top 5 recruiting class the past 3 years, including the #1 class right now. When a team has that much talent, and a coach who has proved in the past that he can win it all with talent, anyone would have to think they should easily be a top 10 preseason team. What makes them #23 or #25 are the "questions" you mention.

When a team has that much talent, and a coach who has proved in the past that he can win it all with talent, anyone would have to think they should easily be a top 10 preseason team. What makes them #23 or #25 are the "questions" you mention.

Texas is the only team on the pre-season Top 25 rankings that posted a losing record though. From where I stand, they need to prove they deserve to be on that list and a 5-7 record ain't it.

Well, if they were making these lists based solely on last year's record, they would just use AP's final ranking from 2010-11 for the preseason top 25.

I am curious what makes them think that a 6-6 ASU team will be top 25 material next year. At least UT has a recent history of being good.

well yeah... they were ranked in the top 5 heading into this year... and there was no way anybody with half a brain thought they were going to be that good...

same goes for Florida... Top 5 at the beginning of the season to a ho-hum season with no real high points

But Florida went to a bowl game, UT didn't even qualify. I think they need to prove something since all the showed last year was they could lose to mediocre teams.
