Everyone says it's money, but they sure don't gain viewers doing it this way....in fact, they may actually lose them. This year by the Sugar Bowl being on ESPN, the rating was 8.4 compared to last year which was 8.7. In addition, I have to believe that a larger percentage of those watching it on ESPN use DVR as opposed to those on regular TV, so they lose out on people watching the commercials.

ABC had the premier of the bachelor. They keep the ratings for women. Espn gets the ratings for espn. Disney , the parent company of both ABC and ESPN get all that ad revenue without losing the women demographic, the demo that has the most purchasing pull. Plus ESPN doesn't have to throw a Womens college basketball game to fill the schedule. Pretty genius on the coporate tv level I you ask me. But no one is so I am just throwing it out there.

According to trailers or whatever they call previews for a upcoming episode of a TV series, it wasn't the premier (that was last week I believe).

I'm perplexed as well...who doesn't have cable/satellite TV in the year 2011?

I have DISH, but I do not have ESPN. And I would definitely have been watching the game on TV if I could have. And the Rose, and the Fiesta, and the Sugar . . .

Well if that is indeed the case, it wpuld have been the second episode, so they still keep the women demo. Any man or woman who cared about this game found a way to do it.

You're the first person I've ever known/heard of that had some type of cable, but not ESPN. I almost thought it was mandatory if you subscribed to anything not OTA.

My 88 year old father found a package on DISH that doesn't have ESPN. But he only watches locals and Fox News. At about 100 decibels. And wonders why the speakers on his TV always seem to be blown.
