Okay, here is the roster from the official UNT web-site. Some of you want a new subject, well here it is.

Who is going start next year?

Who is going to make a move to be a viable back-up?

Who is probably never going to contribute?

Does anyone know about any walk-ons that will be making themselves known during spring ball?

Do any of the height/weight stats need to be changed?

Who did you see standing on the sideline this last fall that doesn't appear on this roster?

I'll get started. I consistently saw someone with the name LONG on his jersey, and he wore #63... which doesn't appear on this roster. Does anyone know who that young man might be, and what position he plays? Is he a potential contributer next year?

Here's another question. Will Drew Miller (#24) remain at TE or will he play LB, which is what he was playing when he walked on. We've got a LOT of guys listed as playing TE, and we need all the 6'1" X 244 LB's that we can get.

Please comment/discuss.

A few thoughts on some of the guys

97 Abbe, Richard DT 6-4 356 Fr This kid is going to be interesting to watch, he has the size, and he has a mean streak.

79 Adedipe, Ayodele OL 6-5 313 So. Another interesting prospect who has the size and some playing time behind him, could be in line for a starting gig

47 Akpunku, Brandon DE 6-1 240 Jr.A SR already?!?! Here's hoping for a big SR year for AK

93 Anyiam, LaChris DE 6-4 292 RFr. Was a big time recruit at the time, has the frame to develop into something, just needs to prove it on the field

41 Atterberry, Will P 5-11 195 So. Proven what he can do

13 Baine, Chase QB 6-0 210 So. Career Backup, sorry folks

73 Bean, Jeremy OL 6-5 300 Jr. Should be battling for a starting line spot

81 Bynes, Christopher WR 6-1 220 Jr. Big things were expected before he got injured

38 Byrd, Brandin RB 5-10 199 Fr. Had himself a nice showing as a FR. Looks to be next in line at RB after this year

96 Cantly, Tevinn DT 6-4 336 So. Has he found his home at DT? Can he produce finally?

19 Carey, Darius WR 5-10 188 So. Playmaker at a deep position

80 Chancellor, Brelan WR 5-9 168 Fr. We found a kick returner!!! A great freshman season. Lets see what he can do with the ball in his hands on offense now

10 Cook, DaWaylon DB 6-1 205 Jr. Has had his ups and downs, heres hoping for a great senior season, he has the tools, time to use them

22 Downing, Ryan DB 6-1 195 Jr. A chance to move into the starting safety spot

5 Dunbar, Lance RB 5-9 203 Jr. Never heard of him

54 Dunham, Blake LB 6-1 202 Fr. Long Snapper this season? LB in the future?

70 Feeley, Coleman OL 6-5 299 So. Should be involved in the OLine battles

85 Fitzpatrick, Austin TE 6-3 220 RFr. Hopefully has put on some weight, alot of TE's were used last year, but not much of him

23 Ford, Steven DB 6-0 173 Jr. Was a starter before an injury took him out

60 Fortenberry, Aaron OL 6-4 292 So. A chance to crack the starting OL

74 Franklin, Troy OL 6-5 280 So. OL? DL? Looks to be a backup wherever he ends up

49 Gaines, Frank DE 6-1 229 So. Should be in the DE rotation again

25 Graham, Brad DB 6-0 199 Jr. Another tweener LB or DB? should get some reps wherever he ends up

2 Hamilton, James RB 5-8 184 Jr. Was having a great season before injury, a nice compliment to LD

86 Hawkins, Graylan TE 6-4 235 Fr. Was brought in as an Olinemen. Depends how much weight he has put on where he plays

46 Herron, Julian LB 6-2 205 Jr. Did he see the field? Needs to put on LB's to see get in the mix

21 Hill, Royce DB 6-0 181 Jr. Back for what should be an outstanding SR season

29 Jackson, Hilbert DB 6-1 182 So. Will have to step up as he should be seeing more PT next year

71 Johnson, Antonio OL 6-5 292 Fr. I'm thinking he will be a stud, maybe not this season but in the future

26 Johnson, Forlando LB 6-0 212 Jr. Another tweener who should see some reps

56 Johnson, J.J. C 6-3 288 Jr. Back from injury for his SR season, or a RsJR. Solid starting C

50 Leppo, Nick OL 6-3 280 RFr. Backing up JJ again, played well till injury bug hit

9 Lewis, B.J. WR 6-1 204 Jr. Always appears to be on the verge of breaking out, never does

20 McCord, D'Leon DB 6-1 180 Jr. Played well last season

66 McCoy, Brandon DE 6-2 265 So. Played well once they found a spot for him. One of my personal favs, 26 yr old ex-marine

24 Miller, Drew TE 6-1 244 Fr. Does he stay at TE or move back to LB. Played well for a walk-on Freshman

76 Noble, John OL 6-6 273 Fr. Another one in the mix to start but most likely will provide depth this season48 Obi, K.C. DE 6-2 240 So. A good season at DE, still needs to add more weight

83 Olawale, Jamize TE 6-2 226 Jr. Came on towards the end of the season, still a little undersized. More of a pass catching TE

37 Olen, Zach PK 5-10 206 Fr. Struggled mightely in the beginning, really turned it on late in the season. Should be a good one

35 Orr, Zachery LB 6-0 240 Fr. Earned alot of PT as a true Fresh and played well, could be starting this season

45 Phillips, Jeremy LB 6-3 212 So. Played well but needs to turn it up going into his JR year

89 Prior, Daniel LB 6-2 228 So. Didn't he play some TE last season as well? I kinda view him as another Phillips.

39 Sashington, Konockus DB 6-1 187 Fr. Heard some good things on him coming out of camp, knocked out due to injury. Have I said that before???

18 Shorter, John DB 6-0 195 Jr. Should get some reps at safety for his SR season

14 Stradford, Tyler WR 6-2 185 Jr. Deep threat who suffered a near fatal freak injury. Will help stretch the field for whoever is at QB

3 Taylor, Willie WR 5-10 181 So. Shows flashes of his playmaking ability, just not consistent enough

16 Teegarden, Derrick QB 6-0 177 Fr. Moved to WR, don't expect much from him till down the road

7 Thompson, Derek QB 6-4 225 So. Big guy coming back from injury, will be a good battle for starting QB

72 Tomlinson, Matt OL 6-5 300 Jr. Probably one of the favorites to nail down an open starting spot

94 White, Kyle DT 6-2 309 So. Played well as a Fr, but didn't see much action last season

57 Y'Barbo, Mason OL 6-2 288 Fr. Like most others, has a chance to steal a starting gig

My comments--as they have been pretty much every year since 2004: Depth, size, and strength will be a challenge next year. Signing day will be huge. There are essentially 5 linemen with the necessary combination of size, experience, and strength (at this point) to put UNT where it needs to be to pressure the QB and stop the run next year. 3 of them have not put in enough weight room work at the college level to be as effective as they can (and need) to be, due to their age and time in the program.

That's not good enough, and is a concern. Hopefully there are reinforcements for this group coming.

A few thoughts on some of the guys

+1, and here are some thoughts on some of your thoughts.

44 Bellazin, Aaron DE 6-2 232 Fr. Got some PT as a Frosh, a year in the weight room should help out

Not sure why he didn't see the field again after the first few games. He looks like he'll be the real deal.

90 Boutwell, Ryan DT 6-3 254 Fr. 3rd year with the program, DE or DT?

DE, I hope.

80 Chancellor, Brelan WR 5-9 168 Fr. We found a kick returner!!! A great freshman season. Lets see what he can do with the ball in his hands on offense now

As you said, WR is still pretty deep, even with the graduations of Jackson, Outlaw, and Lott. Benny Jones was taken off this list, but he should be back next year. Whether Brelan sees much PT at WR or not, I love having him as a return weapon, kind of like Hester with the Bears.

54 Dunham, Blake LB 6-1 202 Fr. Long Snapper this season? LB in the future?

I think the long snapper job is still Kokjohn's. Look for him to be a ST hero.

23 Ford, Steven DB 6-0 173 Jr. Was a starter before an injury took him out

Not only a starter, but far and away our best cover DB according to the coaches.

46 Herron, Julian LB 6-2 205 Jr. Did he see the field? Needs to put on LB's to see get in the mix

He played some, and played respectably. Probably not a starter.

20 McCord, D'Leon DB 6-1 180 Jr. Played well last season

He did fine. Ford's spot is locked up, so the only way he starts is by taking Royce Hill's spot. The odds are against it, but it is not as far-fetched as it might seem.

66 McCoy, Brandon DE 6-2 265 So. Played well once they found a spot for him. One of my personal favs, 26 yr old ex-marine

He needs to see more of the field, and at DE.

35 Orr, Zachery LB 6-0 240 Fr. Earned alot of PT as a true Fresh and played well, could be starting this season

I'll be surprised if he doesn't. And in '12, and in '13.

45 Phillips, Jeremy LB 6-3 212 So. Played well but needs to turn it up going into his JR year

He is the big-play guy. He just needs to find a little more consistency, and I believe he will.

89 Prior, Daniel LB 6-2 228 So. Didn't he play some TE last season as well? I kinda view him as another Phillips.

By the end of the season, he was only playing TE (maybe U-Back), and doing a very good job of it. I don't recall if any passes ever came his way, but he threw killer blocks pretty much every time he lined up.

14 Stradford, Tyler WR 6-2 185 Jr. Deep threat who suffered a near fatal freak injury. Will help stretch the field for whoever is at QB

Definite starter, whether or not the ball comes his way a lot.

7 Thompson, Derek QB 6-4 225 So. Big guy coming back from injury, will be a good battle for starting QB

He has the edge for the starting spot going into spring. But it won't be handed to him.

72 Tomlinson, Matt OL 6-5 300 Jr. Probably one of the favorites to nail down an open starting spot

I'll be surprised if he doesn't.

57 Y'Barbo, Mason OL 6-2 288 Fr. Like most others, has a chance to steal a starting gig

Guy worked at Bodacious BBQ--he's alright in my book.

I'm lazy. How about you tell us about them.

Both highly recruited by many schools out of High School. Marshauwn Grays was a 3star recruit on rivals. 2009 Dallas Nike Combine MVP and 2009 Dallas UnderArmour MVP. kid can really play. Michael Marshall has great athleticism can jump a 40 inch vert. Dont really know how good he is on the field but has the build of a DB. Both were redshirted this past season. Expecting alot out of them 2 this spring.

A few thoughts on some of the guys

Still the best unit on the team: Tomlinson LT - Johnson LG - Y'Baro C - Fortenberry RG - Feeley RT or any combo of these. I wasn't a Big fan of Coach Bryan, but the O-line was pretty awesome for the last 5 games. Tomlinson & Johnson should be the senior leaders and Fortenberry and Feeley will be Juniors with a lot of games under their prodigious belts. JCs could bolster this group, but I don't see a lot of backup material on the team except maybe Franklin and Adedipe (sp?). The new O-line Coach should make all of theses starters that much better with his pro background. Lefty was the recruiter, so it's hard to tell what kind of talent we'll get in this year.

Silver, this is a great topic but it could well be broken down into about a dozen topics with plenty of room for discussion.

A new coaching staff with new evaluations makes it difficult to predict the starters but some are probably locks regardless of who is picking.

Lance Dunbar, Darius Carey, J J Johnson, and Jeremy Phillips are the returning starters that I consider locks for a starting job. Almost as certain to me are Chris Bynes, DeWaylon Cook, Coleman Feeley, Steven Ford, Aaron Fortenberry, Zachery Orr, Tyler Stradford, and Matt Tomlinson. In a much closer race for the starting job will be Royce Hill, Brandon Akpunku, Derek Thompson

and Brad Graham.

I have a gut feeling that Richard Abbe, Matt Herron, Antonio Johnson and Brandon McCoy make serious challenges for the starting lineup. Abbe has the size and demeanor to be a very good defensive tackle. He seems to have good quickness for a big man and a year of weight training could make him lethal. Matt Herron was Robertson's backup which means he saw the field on coverage teams. I think that his speed makes him a starter. Antonio Johnson is the prototype of what an offensive tackle should be. If he's coachable now's the time to make his move. Brandon McCoy may be the hardest of all. I just don't trust Coach Nelson; he may try to move him to tackle again. He could be our sack leader if played regularly at DE.

Some positions, notably TE/UBack and defensive tackle, will depend on who we sign. There are a couple of linebacker possibilities that could keep Herron as a backup.

I agree with most of your comments, however the number of injured returning makes it a little difficult to project. The severity of the injury the leg up given to other players during their absence, etc. There are actually three returning starters returning at center for instance; Leppo, Fortenberry and Johnson. Two promising corners in Ford and Sashington and saftety Cook all injured last year could all contend for db sports.

Coaches will tell you that all spots are always open, but some are a lot more open than others. The most sure starters IMO are Tomlinson, Dunbar, Carey, Olen, Orr and Phillips. I think both the offensive, defensive lines and defensive backfield will be wide open. Joining Carey in the starting lineup should be Stradford and Bynes.

Herron and Prior could battle for the third lb position. Olawale and Thompson are returning leaders for TE and QB but my guess is that nether will end up starting.

An aside, I saw a picture on the athletic site of who I think was Abbe (don;t think NT has anyone else that big) with his arm in a sling.

20 McCord, D'Leon DB 6-1 180 Jr. Played well last season

He did fine. Ford's spot is locked up, so the only way he starts is by taking Royce Hill's spot. The odds are against it, but it is not as far-fetched as it might seem.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead a disagree with you there. There were 3 games that he got pulled in the 1st quarter. We were really thin at the corners last year so we didn't have much of a choice

My point about it not being that far-fetched had more to do with someone taking Royce Hill's spot than it had to do with that player being specifically McCord. Royce Hill shows flashes of brilliance, and then has a game where he gets burned multiple times. If McCord or someone else can step it up, I could see Royce's starting spot as being vulnerable.

Guys this is a FANtastic thread... I am going to weigh in on this but can't do it tonight because I am away from my desktop at a dinner with my wife and refuse to iPhone peck all my opinions.. I do encourage our GMG braintrust to join in on this thread though because it is very entertaining to read! GMG!!

One of the questions posed was "who is never going to contribute". Well, never is a very long time but here are a few who I think have thus far underachieved:

Austin Fitzpatrick TE - Needs weight to compete at tight end or speed for receiver.

Jeremy Bean OL - He has the size and was 2nd team all-conference in JUCO. We had a lot of experienced linemen when he got here so maybe this is the year that he breaks through.

Troy Franklin OL - Former all-state player on a state championship team. Apparently doesn't either have the weight or the technique. I expected him to be starting by now.

Ryan Boutwell D? - Maybe I expected too much. I thought that he was the second coming of Keith Chapman and maybe he would be if he were at DE. A 250 lb. defensive tackle? Now that's hard to believe. Move him back where he belongs.

LeChristopher Anyiam DE - It could be injuries but maybe he could be shifted to tackle and do better. He has the size to play DT but may not have the quickness to play DE.

Forlando Johnson LB - It could be JUCO injuries. He was a pre-season all-America but did not have the sophomore year that he had as a freshman. Maybe everything comes together in this senior year.

I don't mean to be hypercritical about these athletes. I applaud their effort but they seem capable of doing so much more.

Posted

GrayEagle, I might add Kyle White to that list. Had some impact early and has been quiet since. Really needs to step up with the lack of depth on the D-line.

White. Fitzpatrick, Boutwell, and Anyiam are all still underclassman. Some just take more time to develop than others...hopefully.

Posted

I guess the issue with White and Anyiam is that they play a position where we have no room for error. I know they are underclassmen and I wish we were not relying on them immediately.

Hopefully Wright and another JUCO DT sign and provide some immediate relief.

Hopefully Wright is even in Denton.. could he be switching to Arkansas St

Comments in bold and green:

97 Abbe, Richard DT 6-4 357 Fr. Lubbock, TX (Monterey HS) - He's very big and tough, I think the issue is can he make plays. I also think they would like him to shed a few to gain some speed. This spring will be a big test as to whether or not he can contribute.

79 Adedipe, Ayodele OL 6-5 313 So. Sacramento, CA (Mendocino CC) - Sort of came out of nowhere and really helped the team. Good size. Certainly a guy that could battle for significant playing time in 2011 if not a starting position.

47 Akpunku, Brandon DE 6-1 240 Jr. Cedar Hill, TX (Cedar Hill HS) - AK47 is the leader of th defense and you can't question his heart, however he is not an every down defensive end because of his size against the run.

93 Anyiam, LaChris DE 6-4 292 RFr. Allen, TX (Allen HS) - Tremendous size and raw physical ability but no results on the field. Hoping the new staff can figure it out.

99

41 Atterberry, Will P 5-11 195 So. Lewisville, TX (Lewisville HS) - Good player that will only get better in time.

13 Baine, Chase QB 6-0 210 So. Lake Dallas, TX (Lake Dallas HS) - Gutty player that could factor in again if more injuries occur or recruits don't pan out.

73 Bean, Jeremy OL 6-5 300 Jr. Bethel, OK (NE Oklahoma A&M) - Good player that will factor in in the 2 deep.

44 Bellazin, Aaron DE 6-2 232 Fr. Everman, TX (Everman HS) - Was a true freshman and really did not get a chance to show his abilities. Hopefully he redshirted but regardless a key guy to watch in spring drills.

90 Boutwell, Ryan DT 6-3 254 Fr. China Spring, TX (China Spring HS) - Was billed as a poor mans Jeramiah Chapman and has yet to live up to that billing. Injuries have been an issue from day one.

84 Brown, Greg WR 6-1 232 Jr. Grand Prairie, TX (Grand Prairie HS) - Role player that fits the tweener (tight end or wr) role as a backup.

38 Broxton, Ricky DB 5-10 185 Fr. Port Arthur, TX (Justin NW) - ?

81 Bynes, Christopher WR 6-1 220 Jr. Lauderdale Lakes, FL (Coffeyville CC) - Nice player that suffered an injury just when he was starting to make some noise. Hopefully he can participate in spring ball but if healthy should make an impact as a possession receiver in this program.

38 Byrd, Brandin RB 5-10 199 Fr. Copperas Cove, TX (Copperas Cove HS) - One of the brightest signings Dodge had; a key contributor as a freshman and the heir apparent to LD. Great acceleration and vision.

96 Cantly, Tevinn DT 6-4 336 So. Arlington, TX (Lamar HS) - lots of physical size and ability which has not translated on the field. I peg him as a guy that could show up more this season and he will certainly be one to watch in the spring. Also I want to see him at defensive tackle where he belongs.

19 Carey, Darius WR 5-10 188 So. New Orleans, La (Helen Cox HS) - One of the top players on the entire team. Outstanding all SBC caliber talent.

80 Chancellor, Brelan WR 5-9 168 Fr. Copperas Cove, TX (Copperas Cove HS) - Had a huge impact on special teams as a true freshman. Look for Coach Chico to try and get him more involved in the offense as he is a game breaker.

10 Cook, DaWaylon DB 6-1 205 Jr. Dallas, TX (Samuell HS) - Not a bad player but just not yet living up to what we thought he would be.

36 Davis, Marquese LB 6-1 261 Jr. Atlanta, TX (Atlanta HS) - Non factor in the program.

49 Deans, Trent PK 6-0 191 So. Sherman, TX (Sherman HS) - Good value as a backup but if he can't consistently kick it into the endzone he is of minima value to the program.

95

65

11

10 Dodson, John QB 6-0 195 Fr. Dallas, TX (Bishop Lynch HS) - still an interesting walk-on guy to me that we ought to keep an eye on this spring. Size is an issue.

22 Downing, Ryan DB 6-1 195 Jr. El Dorado, KS (Butler CC) - I thought Downing was one of the few members of the secondary who showed moments of promise.

68

5 Dunbar, Lance RB 5-9 203 Jr. Haltom, TX (Haltom HS) - One of the best to ever play the position, if not the best (sorry Patty)

54 Dunham, Blake LB 6-1 202 Fr. Argyle, TX (Argyle HS) - redshirted and will look to play a part in special teams. will likely battle Kokjohn for deep snapper again.

70 Feeley, Coleman OL 6-5 299 So. Austin, TX (Anderson HS) - Should play a key role or start for the offensive line.

85 Fitzpatrick, Austin TE 6-3 220 RFr. Friendswood, TX (Friendswood HS) - Nice athlete who is undersized to play tight end at this level.

23 Ford, Steven DB 6-0 173 Jr. Charleston, SC (Fort Scott CC) - If healthy should vye for a starting position. Good speed.

60 Fortenberry, Aaron OL 6-4 292 So. Era, TX (Era HS) - Has been one of the best walk-on stories of the Dodge era, major contributer that could start in 2011.

59 Foster, Ryan DE 6-2 227 So. Grand Prairie, TX (Prairie View) - ?

74 Franklin, Troy OL 6-5 280 So. Celina, TX (Celina HS) - A disappointing career so far and hopefully he can get things back on track this spring.

49 Gaines, Frank DE 6-1 229 So. San Diego, CA (College of San Francisco) - Fits the current UNT defensive end prototype under Dodge, a pass rusher that is undersized against the run.

43 Gandy, Shelton RB 5-8 170 Fr. Denton, TX (Ryan HS) - Never really saw him play and imagine he will follow his dad.

64 Gill, Victor OL 6-4 265 Sr. Argyle, TX (Argyle HS) -

87

27

25 Graham, Brad DB 6-0 199 Jr. Katy, TX (Navarro CC) - His season was disappointing but there were moments. Really undersized as a linebacker and too slow to be a defensive back. Needs a defense to build a system around him.

2 Hamilton, James RB 5-8 184 Jr. Cedar Hill, TX (Cedar Hill HS) - A true talent that you just hope will be healthy for his senior season.

36 Harrison, Jared WR 5-5 165 Fr. Houston, TX (Lewisville HS) - ?

86 Hawkins, Graylan TE 6-4 235 Fr. Dallas, TX (Skyline HS) - Wonder what his size is?

46 Herron, Julian LB 6-2 205 Jr. Arlington, TX (SMU) - A guy I thought would do a lot and he didn't play that much. Hopefully a new staff will help him get him more engaged - he has some serious speed.

21 Hill, Royce DB 6-0 181 Jr. Houston, TX (Cypress Ridge HS) - Can never figure him out, at times looks like a superstar and other times like he is lost. He has played a lot of football at North Texas. Hopefully it will all come together in his senior season.

35 Hunt, Joshua RB 5-6 192 Fr. Dallas, TX (Lancaster HS) ?

29 Jackson, Hilbert DB 6-1 182 So. Rowlett, TX (Rowlett HS) - Really didn't see enough from him to comment.

15

91

51

71 Johnson, Antonio OL 6-5 292 Fr. Diboll, TX (Diboll HS) - A guy that is very large and should be very interesting to watch after a redshirt season. he has the body of a D-I major prototypical offensive tackle which has been rare around these parts.

17

26 Johnson, Forlando LB 6-0 212 Jr. Atlanta, GA (Butler CC) - Had his moments but not the impact that we had hoped for.

56 Johnson, J.J. C 6-3 288 Jr. Plano, TX (Plano West HS) - If he is healthy there probably isn't a better center in the SBC.

18

78 Kokjohn, Troy OL 6-2 231 Jr. Carrollton, TX (Hebron HS) - had a nice season at deep snapper. I like that he actually will make tackles down the field.

50 Leppo, Nick OL 6-3 280 RFr. Southlake, TX (Carroll HS) - injuries hurt him but you can see he is pretty good. Will be interesting to see if they start him at center and allow Johnson to move to guard.

9 Lewis, B.J. WR 6-1 204 Jr. Waco, TX (Robinson HS) - Guys got talent but got lost in the numbers at his position. ***Note to current staff: "we have plenty of talented receivers on this team already. please sign linemen!"

4

20 McCord, D'Leon DB 6-1 180 Jr. El Dorado, KS (Butler CC) - Had one of the nicer seasons of an overall weak secondary season for UNT.

66 McCoy, Brandon DE 6-2 265 So. Carrollton, TX (Creekview HS) - A Fan favorite, the guy who brings his lunch pail to work every day. Just underutilized for much of the season.

24 Miller, Drew TE 6-1 244 Fr. Prosper, TX (Prosper HS) - The guy can play a bit and I like him somewhere.

32

34

76 Noble, John OL 6-6 273 Fr. Rockwall, TX (Rockwall HS) - redshirt with good size that appears to be a longer term project.

48 Obi, K.C. DE 6-2 240 So. Mission Hills, CA (Bishop Alemany HS) - solid, undersized but possibly a four year starter.

83 Olawale, Jamize TE 6-2 226 Jr. Long Beach, CA (El Camino JC) - Good hands but a tweener at tight end.

37 Olen, Zach PK 5-10 206 Fr. Richardson, TX (Berkner HS) - big time leg who could potentially be one of the best ever.

35 Orr, Zachery LB 6-0 240 Fr. DeSoto, TX - Orr played a lot as a true freshman and will fill in for Penson nicely.

82

31

45 Phillips, Jeremy LB 6-3 212 So. Waller, TX (Waller HS) - good player that really had a sophomore slump; need to get bigger and not be as big a liability against the run.

89 Prior, Daniel LB 6-2 228 So. Henderson, TX (Henderson HS) - unsuccesful attempt to move him to h-back, needs to go back to defense where he belongs. Undersized as a middle linebacker but could be a decent will if given the chance. A talent that cries out for direction from this staff.

52 Racht, Wesley LB 6-1 221 Fr. Rancho Palos Verdes, CA (Palos Verdes HS) ?

16 Roberts, Phillip DB 5-11 195 So. Killeen, TX (Ellison HS) - ?

42

92

77

39 Sashington, Konockus DB 6-1 187 Fr. Austin, TX (Akins HS) - cool name.

27 Schutza, Casey WR 5-10 170 So. Euless, TX (Trinity HS)

39 Serrano, Jose PK 5-11 199 Fr. Dallas, TX (Skyline HS)

18 Shorter, John DB 6-0 195 Jr. Dallas, TX (Lake Highlands HS) - John is a talented player that could have a terrific senior season. In my book he should start at safety.

8

98 Smith, Tanner TE 6-3 245 Fr. Fort Worth, TX (Nolan Catholic HS) - interested to see what his size is. If he is truly 6-3, 245 he could help us at tight end.

30 Squier, Weston RB 5-8 161 Jr. Sanger, TX (Sanger HS)

14 Stradford, Tyler WR 6-2 185 Jr. New Orleans, LA (Oklahoma) - major league speed and size but bad hands. Injuries kept him from doing much this year but he is a key player because he is one of the few that can keep a defense honest.

63 Summerfield, Nicolas OL 6-1 265 Fr. Killeen, TX (Killeen HS) - ?

30- Tandy, James DB 5-11 190 Fr. Dallas, TX (Kimball HS) -?

3 Taylor, Willie WR 5-10 181 So. Dallas, TX (Hillcrest HS) - Did some nice things and again gets caught up in a numbers game from a playing time perspective.

16 Teegarden, Derrick QB 6-0 177 Fr. Odessa, TX (Odessa HS) - Don't know where he will end up playing at UNT.

7 Thompson, Derek QB 6-4 225 So. Glen Rose, TX (Glen Rose HS) - Nasty nasty injury that will likely keep him out of the spring.

72 Tomlinson, Matt OL 6-5 300 Jr. Klein, TX (Klein HS) - Solid likely starter in 2011.

98

94 White, Kyle DT 6-2 309 So. New Orleans , LA (McDonogh 35 HS) - good talent and size but either he can't play or can't yet prove himself worthy of playing time.

7 Wilson, Jamaal DB 5-10 182 Jr. DeSoto, TX (DeSoto HS) - Had a REAL nice season as a walk-on who became one of the best kick off and special teams guys we had. Would like to see him get a shot at being in the secondary.

40 Wright, Will DB 6-2 204 Fr. Garland, TX (South Garland HS) - A guy that could be a future star for this defense.

57 Y'Barbo, Mason OL 6-2 288 Fr. Sulphur Springs, TX (Sulphur Springs HS) - Will get playing time and good end up starting at guard before all is said and done. A good signing for Dodge.

Agree with most comments, but not all

Boutwell may have out grew the de position but he could be a redshirt freshman as he came in as a gray shirt., way too early to be disappointed in his progress

Bellazen - I think he played, therefore didn't redshirt

Brown - A lot more than a role player, was lauded as best special teams player and played at both te and hb before injury, awarded ship last year

Cook - One of a myriad of injured players last year, was starter when healthy and last year

Graham - Ended up starting at safety, good solid player

Miller - Played great for freshman walk on, made lot of plays at te; would like to see him at his original position; lb

Phillips - I didn't see any slump at all; became a full time starter

Prior - Played very well at HB, hope he moves back to lb, however

Squieer - Small walk on that has excelled on special teams, particularly blocking kicks

Sashington - Given ship shortly after slart of season; will battle for time in secondary

Players I expected to see more of, some may have been injured

Fitzpatrick - With lack of tes and hbs and on the more recognized recruits with a redshirt year, figured he would play

Noble - Had some good early reviews but was a non-factor last year

Franklin - I thought he would prosper in the ol, don't remember him playing at all last year

Anyiam - Late ballyhooed signee, don't remember him even suited up; wonder if he was injured or just gone

Cantly - Played but injury plagued; Gained too much weight during rehab and never really challenged for position

Herron - Backup LB, but never seemed to excel as hoped

Davis - Never has lived up to billing; reported overweight; not sure if he ever played or is still on team

White - After wasting his freshman year redshirt, not sure if he played last year; could have redshirted

Obi - Not a bad year by any means, but I hoped for more after a surprise freshman year

Pleasant Surprises last year

Chancellor - Frankly I wondered why he was signed, not even first team all district; had great year, can't wait to see if he can play receiver

Miller - Looked like the best of the walk ons on paper and was very good for true freshman; Good candidate for a ship

Abbe - I thought NT was grasping at straws, signing a hs offensive lineman and converting to dt; Reporting way over weight but showed a lot of potential

Baine - Showed a lot of moxie as fourth string QB pressed into action, I don't think he will get many chances at QB; I wonder if he could play lb or safety

McCoy - Out of nowhere, should challenge for playing time for next two seasons

Leppo - Palyed well as freshman before injured

Deans - Did relative well as punter when pressed into service

Byrd - Looked great earlier as freshman; not sure he is the next great NT back but had a good year

I totally agree about Baine. I think that his best chance to contribute this fall would be at Safety. At 6'X210 he's certainly big enough.
