Really, that turnaround that Lama has made with the program can't be over stated. He walked into as bare bones an operation as can be had. His first season we played nearly all walk-ons and by the end of the season we actually were decently competitive. In the years since he's steadily built a legit program.

So, I'm on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga. So we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." And he says, "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice

I met Coach Lama at a football function on the AD facility deck this last fall. Yes, the tennis coach was attending a football related function. Then i saw him nest with his entire family at a Mean green football game and have seen him this season at the basketball games. This guy is not only an excellent tennis coach and has completely turned around the tennis program, but HE GETS IT! My wife and I will be attending our first Mean Green tennis matches together this season as a result of our meeting Coach lama and spending a bit of time talking to him. I am not much of a tennis fan, but I am a UNT fan and a BIG fan of those coaches and programs who "get it" regarding the overall program.

We are actually looking forward to attending and seeing the way the team has become one of the area's very best.
