Yes, he now has accepted a job with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

I hope they put him in rehab first, otherwise they will just be throwing money at him to make themselves feel better, while he blows all that money on booze and drugs.

(For those unfamiliar with the story, he is homeless due to drug and alcohol abuse)

You have a valid point...while not PC, it is something that needs to be dealt with for the guy to make a long-time "go" out of this opportunity. Studies have shown that just providing a job is not the key to long-term success for people who are homeless due to drug and/or alcohol addiction. I hope and pray that this is the break this guy needed to get his life turned around and heading in a positive direction. I do believe that the Cavs will do more than just give this guy a job and money and send him on his way to fend for himself. My guess is that this will include some much required/needed rehab sessions/work/monitoring as well.

Congrats to the guy...seems like he really does have some talent.

Nope, but he could easily be in a shelter and on the path to an apartment.

There is A LOT of help out there for the homeless that want it.

Unfortunately, a lot of these guys are mentally ill, which is one reason they end up back on the street using. Hopefully this isn't the case here.

Could be. The reports said drug and alcohol addiction, but he could have mental illness issues also.

Just hope the people that hire him do it for the right reasons and get him the help that he needs.

There are people w/ college degrees who have never done drugs who are homeless. It's very possible that being homeless with no $$ was his way of staying clean. He could've had a fear of gettting a job and making money and going back to his old ways. I agree he needs to go to rehab to be able to cope with this new lifestyle he is about to tackle. I don't think this is in anyways a charity job , he has a great talent.

Tho not a popular comment but you have valid points that I would be thinking too. This gentleman has or had issues so it is up to the Cavs in monitoring his habits . While many homeless people are virtually eff ups no matter how much you try to help them or give them...there are others who need that break and so hopefully this guy takes advantage of what he has received and truly change his life around.

No doubt about the talent (he was in radio before the addiction issues, after all), but the PR bump alone for hiring this guy could cause some to do it for less than altruistic motives, and not really give a crap about what happens to the guy after they get what they want. Also of concern, there was some segment that filmed his reunification with his mother. He already is not making the right decisions.

Yes, there are people w/ college degrees who are homeless and have never done drugs, but they either have a mental illness, or they are the huge exception to the rule. They in no way factor into what is going on with this guy, who is an admitted addict. I'm sure you know that shelters are readily available to anyone who needs them, but you have to follow the rules. One of those rules is no drugs or alcohol. For many homeless, they would rather stay homeless and have access to the drugs and alcohol than go to a shelter and be forced to stay sober. That is the biggest thing that concerns me with this guy still living on the streets.

And if you have talked wth over 1,000 addicts, then you know the propensity to lie about being clean, especially when lying can have such big benefits for the addict.

Interesting...you say pretty much what I said in a previous/earlier post and I get hit with two "negative votes". Not that I care about the votes, just wondering...Where's the justice????

      UTSA Game Poll

      UTSA is 4-0 at home and 0-5 away for 4-5 overall. NT is 3-2 at home and 2-2 away for 5-4 overall. They haven't gone thru the 3 game gauntlet NT has. Homer says we'll win by 14.

      Around the League / UNT Opponents

      figure one main thread to keep track of how our opponents are faring. the AAC is off to a pretty strong start...overall record of 29-7. plus currently Oregon State, High Point and Utah State / St. Bonaventure are all 3-0 - Memphis (2-0) with two quality wins v. Mizzou and UNLV. they should be undefeated (though San Francisco isn't a gimmie) heading into a 11/25 game with UCONN. - UAB (2-1)...I thought their loss to Vermont wouldn't look too bad, but UV has two pretty ugly losses now. really intriguing game tomorrow 11/15 v. High Point - FAU (2-1) look tough...their loss was by 6 to UCF who already beat then 13th A&M. - the other undefeated teams, ECU (3-0), Temple (3-0), Tulane (3-0), Tulsa (3-0), Wichita St. (2-0) collectively really haven't played much of a schedule...best win is probably WSU over WKU...but they've made pretty light work of what's in front of them. Games of interest over the next week or so: 11/14 - Northern Iowa @ Wichita State 11/15 - UAB @ HighPoint ; Temple @ Boston College ; FAU v. Charlston and Liberty (11/16) 11/21 - Memphis @ San Francisco ; FAU v. Oklahoma State (3 day tourney...would play Miami or Drake next)

      Sure but how good is Charlotte? They beat Richmond who lost to Marist. Utah State's other D1 win is against 0-3 Alcorn State who lost to an NAIA school. Again too early to really tell either way.

      they dropped 100 on a conference mate. currently 47 in KenPom. Memphis is at 37 and currently our highest rated opponent.
