June Jones To Maryland?

Reports are that June Jones turned down a $1,000,000+ raise to stay at SMU and pass on the Maryland gig and that Leach is, indeed, still in the running for the Maryland job.

WOW...SMU is paying June Jones $2,000,000/year! That isn't bad for that program. I guess a few "big time" donors are footing a pretty big payroll as the attendance from the average fan base at SMU sure isn't brining in much cash it seems. WOW...I figured the guy was doing OK at SMU, but $2,000,000 per season...wow! I'd stay at SMU over Maryland for that as well. Who wants that cold weather and to be that close to Washington DC and all that craziness for a mere $1,000,000 more???

Yes, the Circle of Champions ponied up to supplement his salary. I worked for one of them. They each committed $500k over 5 years.

With his agent out there tweeting stuff like, "turned down riches to continue building SMU's program"......sure seems unlikely that Jones would announce that he's taking the Maryland job.

Maryland just isn't that good a gig, regardless of how much they're paying. If June Jones bides his time another year or two and continues to improve SMU's program, he will be a candidate for any of the best coaching jobs out there.

They just said during the game that Jones withdrew his name. I think they said that Mike Leach is in fact one of the three coaches considered. Les Miles as well. I might be wrong about Miles. I'm working in the office and just listening to the T.V.
