Could it be a tournament schedule? Spring soccer is pretty much exhibition stuff, and you get some very good opponents as a result. I see absolutely no reason why some would shy away from coming to Denton. Good place to play and not far from some of the schools mentioned. I don't think the 90% win at home mark would scare many away. I'll keep my fingers crossed for some good spring soccer in Denton. Here's hoping....GO SOCCER LADIES!!!!!

I'm glad to see coach Hedlund putting together a tough spring schedule. Expectations will be very high for the upcoming 2011 soccer season. A lot was written this year about how young the team was,(only two seniors), but next years team quickly becomes a upper class laden team with veteran leadership (7 seniors - 5 who started last year, of those 4 were four year starters and 9 juniors returning). The only key starter not returning from last year is goalie Mandy Hall.

My bet is this type of spring schedule will carry over into a tough non-conference schedule next year to prepare the girls for conference play and hopefully a tournament appearance. IMO next years team on paper is one of the most talented teams in the last 5 years.

Teams are expected to win despite the cards that are dealt to them...but last years team having to play MT, WK & Denver on the road two years in a row, then having the bad luck of playing a WK team in the first round of the conference tournament was just not fair and unlucky. Next year we are back to having a schedule that's includes more home games than away (which include MT, WK and MT at home).

Personally can't wait to see how UNT match up against #5 OK State and #10 TX A&M in the spring.

I asked Mean Green Soccer on Facebook if the games were home or away...we will see if I get a response. Hopefully at least a couple are at home.

I think the majority of these games are on the road. Here's what I know...

Multiple games in one day

@ Tulsa - Tulsa & Arkansas

@ Rice - LSU & Rice

@ College Station - A&M & Houston

Single game day (not sure if home or away, but my guess is away)

Oklahoma

Oklahoma State

Thanks for the info...may try to make road games at A&M (we have known Coach G for many years...coached my son's select team before heading to A&M to start that program), and Okie State as I am also an Okie State grad and enjoy going back to Stillwater from time to time...would have to cheer the Mean green on even when in Stillwater. GO MEAN GREEN! When will the game dates be announced? Anyone know?

I did receive confirmation that all games will be on the road and I look forward to seeing you down at A&M & OK State! From a fans perspective you can't beat this spring schedule. OK State, TAMU and LSU have been perennial soccer powers in their conferences. Tulsa, Rice, Houston and Arkansas will also be very competitive matches.

Side note: I think a lot of us Big 12 alums (Kansas here), have kids going to UNT! My second just got accepted yesterday ... very thankful I don't have to restock on college gear :D !

So, what you are saying is that your kids are smarter than you, right? Ha! Just teasing....How soon do you think the dates of the games will be posted? Got to see if we can make the trips...sure hope so...would be great fun. My bride says she is "in" and would be happy to go if the dates work...tell me the dates will work!!!!

GO MEAN GREEN!

Well, the OSU game sucks as far as a date for me...the wife is out of town at a conference (well, that isn't all THAT bad  ...but, there is also a home men's basketball game that evening against denver...BUT, the Texas A&M game looks like a real possibility as far as a "road trip" for the bride and I...know of a good hotel near the campus? Is there a hotel on the campus perhaps? I've never been to the A&M campus in College Station if you can believe that...should be fun!

We've stayed at the Hilton on University Drive a number of times. Very nice hotel and close to campus.

I just got an email from Coach G at A&M indicating that thery may have not been able to work dates out foir a UNT and A&M spring game and that it will not happen this spring. G said the late March date was already booked on their schedule.

Looks like the A&M game may not happen after all. Bummer...I'll keep my fingers crossed for a change in dates...maybe....hopefully.....

Thanks for the input on a place to stay. If you go to the OSU game, best place to stay is right on campus at the Student Union Hotel. Easy to walk to Eskimo Joe's and the Hideaway for pizza...two "don't miss" places to eat in Stillwater.

BUT...remember...GO MEAN GREEN! BEAT OSU!!!!

These spring dates are to a certain extent fluid, and at this point you probably have more updated information than the coaching staff (You truly are a GMG athletics insider :P ). If that is the way if falls out, I'm bummed as the girls traditionally head to A&M and the matches are always competitive. I'm sure in the coming weeks they will post a finalized schedule on the web...I'll keep you posted if I here anything different. Thanks for hotel info at OSU...last time I was in Stillwater I went to the Hideaway and it was really good!
